Saw her in Irene on Broadway. After the show she came out into the lobby, sat up on the bar and talked to people and signed autographs. Incredibly fun watching her interact with people. She stayed until everyone had left.
She had replaced Debbie Reynolds in the play. Debbie was also born on April 1. Life is so full of coincidences.

After Debbie had left the IRENE production and Jane had taken over, Reynolds would periodically show up to hop onstage and join in taking the curtain call bows. Normally cheerful Powell was none too happy about that.

Good for her. There really ought to be like some sort of swanky awards ceremony honoring these golden age stars that are still alive. Too bad there isn't.

Also, it's becoming a habit on the boards, but I have to post a photo of Jane with a cat that I found!

RE: Dark Haired Jane in Enchanted Island (above) According to a 1987 "Films in Review" article Powell said, "It was a terrible movie. Dwan had no interest in it; and Dana Andrews was drinking at the time. It was really a fiasco! The best thing about it was that it gave the family a great vacation in Acapulco." Of Jane Powell's 19 features released between 1944 and 1958, her Hollywood era, this was the only film not to receive a contemporary New York Times review. The script explained Polynesian Powell's blue eyes by mentioning that a Swedish sailor had been on the island years before.
All this could explain why I never heard of this picture !
