Did ye ever see Jed Mercurio's previous drama series "Bodies"? 17 episodes (two seasons and a finale special) Set in the labour ward of an understaffed hospital. New doctor comes in, witnesses sharp practice and serious surgical mistakes made by his superior surgeons, gets caught up in dilemma of whether to whistle-blow etc etc. I thought I'd give it a go (BBC I Player) Ten eps in and the story's going quite well, interesting enough to keep me watching. Keith Allen is absolutely repulsive as head consultant - sexist, rude, unfeeling to patients (wishing them dead on more than one occasion) But, brahs, the explicit close-up vaginal shots were getting too much for me, beginning to turn my stomach and no messing about. The scenes weren't necessary or intrinsic to the plot. I'm sure they were filmed purely for shock value. I shan't go into detail in order not to relive my horror in any way.
By episode 15 I'd got sick of fast forwarding the graphic vaginal scenes every 20 minutes. During episode 15 the worst, most stomach-turning close-up so far appeared in all its horrible, gory bloody mess. The patient, mentally unbalanced and lying in the High Risk unit, believed that the baby inside her was "deformed" although a scan said not. Then the inevitable close-up : a horrifying gush of god-knew-what spewed out of her like bloody spaghetti strands and I nearly threw up. That was it for me. No more of this unnecessary and disgusting gore. I don't know how the show ended as I chose not to watch any more of it despite wasting several hours viewing nearly 15 episodes. As ye might put it, total gash, and a f***ing good lesson in how to ruin an otherwise decent drama series. Thanks for the warning! I like looking it splayed gashes - but not ones with babies sticking out of them!

Thanks for the warning! I like looking it splayed gashes - but not ones with babies sticking out of them! But not just babies, Captain. Try watching the surgeon extracting the remains of a three month old "lost" tampon from one wretched patient's gash. I enjoy a good slasher flick, brah, but this sh*t is vomit-inducing.

Will try to give it a go sometime, it's just trying to finish all the other series on the go. Just finished the new series of "Name Of The Rose" last night, rather good. John Turttorro and Rupert Everette chewing the scenery magnificently. Name of the Rose? Based on the same book as the Sean Connery movie? A medieval mystery? If so, I am sold!
Yes, written by the wonderful Umberto Eco, his real masterpiece for me though is "Foucault's Pendulum", which contains just about every conspiracy theory down through history. The first 40 or so pages are tough going but it's a brilliant read. Reminded me in a way of John Fowle's The Magus.

Never heard of it. I see that my library has the first four series on DVD. I'll watch it, and if I don't like it, you will owe me for the wasted time!

Two years til next series leaving it open ended like this? What they playing at?
As Graham Taylor rightfully said : "You know we've been cheated, don't ye?"
H stands for Hang viewers by their bollix for another two years

Anyone watch it? Good first episode. Great to have Adrian Dunbar back! "I didn’t float up the Lagan on a bubble" How did you feel regarding the season with Thandie Newton.

7.8 million viewers - most watched TV programme of the year so far. Nobody? It's like a British rival to the wire as well.

I enjoyed that season - Thandie was terrific. She didn't get as much praise as Keeley Hawes did but i thought Thandie was better.

H stands for Hang viewers by their bollix for another two years I think they wrapped it up just enough that I won't tear my hair out in suspense until then. I didn't mind the finale being interview-heavy as those are one of my favourite things about the show but it probably could have done with a few more action scenes. I did love the following line from Kate though.
