For me...
General internet = 1995 (which is about 3-5 years before it was mainstream)
IMDb = Feb 2004 (so 15 years and 2 months)
but your 1999 on IMDb is solid (I imagine the volume of users back then was not too many) as I would say general internet was never really mainstream til about 1998-2000. prior to 2000 we did not even have high speed internet available in our area as apparently I was one of the earlier people to get it installed in my area. hell, I would also say that 1998-2000 time frame for computers was about the same with cell phones to.
but just speaking for myself... I am not sure when I first took notice of IMDb but I would imagine it would have been sometime after you given your March 1999 account registration date. because mine was Feb 2004 and it was probably a fair amount before that when I first used the site at all but took a little while before I made a account to keep track of what I see etc.

Yeah I probably first visited IMDB around 1999 or 1998.
It's funny how the time between 1999 and now does not seem that long.
Something truncated about the last two decades. Maybe because the culture has been so bland and repetitive.

I first used the internet in 1995. But I can't remember what year I discovered IMDB -- I can't remember if it was 1997 or 1998. I think I was Yahoo searching for a specific movie, and that's probably how I discovered IMDB. And I think my reason for creating an account was to post movie reviews. But yeah, I must've spent about a year or so just casually visiting the site before I decided to create my account.
