Akira, for those who don't know, is one of the most amazing and beloved manga of the 80's. It is also one of the most amazing and beloved anime movie of the late 80's/early 90's. (?) if you've never experienced either go seek it out. You wont regret it.
Apparently Appian Way has the rights and are ready to roll soon...
The issue of white washing a cast has come up whenever the Hollywood version of the movie is made (strangely enough it didn't when Battle Angle Alita came out... maybe folks are getting tired of complaining?)
Anyway, the entire set of characters should be Japanese, but will most undoubtedly be cast mostly if not all white, and certainly the leads will be cast white.
So what do you guys think? Should we give a shit either way?

Was Akira inspired by Blade Runner at all? Felt that way to me.

Was Akira inspired by Blade Runner at all? Felt that way to me. Probably yes to some degree. Obviously the story is different, but you cant deny the look and feel are there.

They’ve moved the setting to manhattan and making an American version of the story so really they can cast any race, just like when Indian and other Asian countries do their versions of American films

Alita was already set in the United States so no issues.

I could care less which way they go since I think that it could work either way (though I admit I do like to see at least SOME diversity in large casts). But you know there are people who are going to come out of the woodwork to complain.
