Cool. £120 more than I won (I didn't back anything.)
Yeah, I remember the only other time a Scottish horse won the race - I was almost 15 in 1979 when Rubstic won. I didn't back it either! It was 25/1.

Aintree is one of the most famous racecourses in the UK. It's in Liverpool and is where the world's most famous steeplechase is run every year, The Grand National.

Watch yesterday's race here: I know very little about the sport but the steeplechase race is scenically a beautiful event. What magnificent horses and the grounds are spectacular! Thank you for that video. The 2 Aintrees could not be more different.

No worries. The race does have its critics though as it's not uncommon for one or two horses to be killed or have to be put down. Thankfully all horses escaped unscathed this time.

Any idea what the figure is for a typical Aintree National meeting, Sgt?

Any idea what the figure is for a typical Aintree National meeting, Sgt? No, Sir, but as it's pretty late I'll be lazy and bid you take a look at this list of all horse deaths in the Grand National itself, just the race not the whole meeting. It kind of becomes a bit more poignant when you see the horses' names and not just as statistics, what?
EDIT : and the descriptions of how they died doesn't make you feel any better either.Names of all Grand National fatalities.

Yes, very sad. Fewer horses than I expected though!
I remember Rag Trade - owned by Teasie Weasie Raymond. Good horse.
