Oops, not sure why I said Brienne. I meant to say Gilly & Sam, but for some random reason I wrote Brienne. I agree that Brienne definitely has a high chance of dying considering she'll fight on the battlefield. Oh I wasn't dissing you just curious why you feel both Jon and Dany can't live in coexistence. Oh you were referring to that line. Jon & Dany both living with Dany controlling the Kingdoms and Jon as Warden of the North or King in the North would be the standard and expected happy ending. Not that it's a bad ending, but I don't see GRRM having that in mind as the ending to his story. Looking back, Game of Thrones has had a lot more happy endings to storylines than I thought when I first watched it, but they always come at a high cost. For example Tyrion lives at the end of season 4, but at the cost of Oberyn. I think the same will happen in season 8. The humans will win, but at the cost of one of the two main leaders, either Jon or Dany. Of course I don't know for sure (we'll know when we watch S8), but it's just a feeling I have.

GRRM doesn't give you what you want or what you expect. He makes a point of it. Subversion is his way of being interesting. It goes much deeper than most think in that he goes as far as having the seemingly good guys do the bad things (like the "good" Starks starting a war no one needs) and the seemingly bad ones (at least those he sees as bad, because he is a fucking leftard) do the good thing (stopping the war the Starks started) but making it look dishonourable. Then the story has the "big bad" Tywin state the obvious: “Explain to me why it is more noble to kill 10,000 men in battle than a dozen at dinner”. But the stupid still don't get it. He does it again with Daenerys who frees slaves (good girl) than abuses them by taking them to fight her own personal invasion war which, again, no one else needs. He then hides behind his relativist stance ("there are no bad people, it's all just grey…") but it's really all a matter of keeping people guessing, surprised and entertained with action, gore and sex. The man is a superficial American who grew up on super-hero comics, what can you expect?

Jon and Danaeris' relationship might fatally suffer over this Tarly thing and maybe their kingdom will splinter in two as a result. The ending might be dystopic and the message might be that humans can't unite to save their lives, literally.
