www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/47893542Rugby Australia and the New South Wales Rugby Union say they intend to terminate Israel Folau's contract after a social media post by the full-back in which he said "hell awaits" gay people. Folau, 30, has 73 caps and was expected to play at this year's World Cup. "He does not speak for the game with his recent social media posts," the governing bodies said. "In the absence of compelling mitigating factors, it is our intention to terminate his contract." Rugby Australia and the NSW Rugby Union, which is responsible for Super Rugby side NSW Waratahs, said they have made "repeated attempts" to contact Folau and he has failed to get in touch with either organisation. "Israel has failed to understand that the expectation of him as a Rugby Australia and NSW Waratahs employee is that he cannot share material on social media that condemns, vilifies or discriminates against people on the basis of their sexuality," the governing bodies said in a statement. "As a code we have made it clear to Israel formally and repeatedly that any social media posts or commentary that is in any way disrespectful to people because of their sexuality will result in disciplinary action." Australia's sponsor Qantas, whose chief executive Alan Joyce is openly gay, said Folau's post was "really disappointing". "These comments clearly don't reflect the spirit of inclusion and diversity that we support," the airline said. Folau, who signed a four-year deal with the Waratahs in March and had a deal with Rugby Australia until 2022, escaped punishment for similar comments last year, with Rugby Australia saying it accepted - but did not support - his "position". On Wednesday, he posted on Instagram that "drunks, homosexuals, adulterers, liars, fornicators, thieves, atheists and idolaters" should "repent" because "only Jesus saves", and made similar remarks on Twitter. He sent a tweet criticising the Tasmanian parliament, which has become the first Australian state to make it legally optional to list gender on birth certificates.

More proof (if any was needed) that religious people have less brains than regular people.

Good news story of the day, if he really is banned of course Think they've got to... You can't have people who represent a club or country in sport being all homophobic and damning people to hell on social media. He was told not to pull that shit again. Career suicide. Guess he was on glue at the time 🤷

If being a Christian is about vilifying homosexuals, then I've clearly been doing something wrong the last 20 years...

If being a Christian is about vilifying homosexuals, then I've clearly been doing something wrong the last 20 years... A fair percentage of religious people are not much different than non-religious on matters such as homosexuality or separation of state and religion. Things can become a bit different when religious fanatics get hold of power to make governmental laws.

Cosmas he has got it all wrong teaching us about following Christ's example of not judging other people. And what's the Pope thinking, telling Catholics it's not our mission to convert our neighbours, but to live in harmony with them 🤔

I have a disdainful hatred for politicians and believe political parties (and most politicians if not all) are complete frauds and charlatans. Both conservative and leftist parties frequently represent selfish motives and are exploitive of people. I am 32 but I have never voted in my life and don't think it is likely to change in the future.

Aussie rugby fella on radio just said he reckons Folau did it deliberately, says he knew full well it would get him fired.
Which would beg the question, why didn't he just resign if he wanted to, instead of making an ass of himself 🤔

Between Nick Farr-Jones, David Pocock abd Izzy, Australian Rugby has had it's fair share of outspoken christians. You couldn't find two more different views on homosexuals than David's and Izzy's.

I am at least two of those things and I won't lose a second of sleep over being told to "repent" by someone on Instagram.
That is a well-deserved criticism. This whole idea of raising children "without gender" needs to be nipped in the bud. If an adult wants to change his or her gender on his official documents, or have his or her gender written down as "none" or "other", that is another discussion - but children are born either male or female, and the state shouldn't indulge asshole parents who deny that basic reality.

It's not the state's business to enforce gender identity on anybody. It harms nobody at all to not specify a gender on a birth certificate.

Yeah, I'm with the common sense brigade on birth certificates as well. What business is it of yours to enforce gender identity on other people exactly?
