Whatever anyone wants to say about the prequels, they have to admit that he was great as Palpatine/Sidious.

The prequels are supposed to be about the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker, but the story of the rise of Palpatine is far more interesting and the highlight for me of the prequels, thanks in no small part to the enigma of the character himself and the brilliance of the actor who portrays him.

If he really is back then it suggests they are using the plot outline that Gary Kurtz mentioned--a final confrontation with the Emperor in episode 9.
Presumably Rey is the (true) Other that the pre-insane Yoda talked about.
