Pros - Jason Momoa, despite looking nothing like the character, is still an amiable presence and has suitable charisma. Also hunky as hell. Amber Heard is damn gorgeous The running across rooftops scene in Sicily
Cons - The plot is completely generic - Reluctant hero, ancient artifact that needs finding but only after so many twists and turns (bottom of Sahara desert, a stopover in Sicily, bottom of the ocean, then finally confronting some monster to claim the trident) The motivation for Black Manta. Yes, I'm a murdering pirate but things get personal when my daddy is killed. The guy you T-1000'd could have been a father, too. Some of the visual effects are iffy. Still, it's not easy to make many of the underwater scenes look convincing. Speaking of visual effects, a simple scene like Aquaman's dad standing at the dock waiting for Nicole Kidman still looks fake as shit. A waste of Swedish powerhouse Dolph Lundgren. If this was made 30 years ago, I can see him at the title character.

Pros: -Jason Momoa’s performance -James Wan’s direction -Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master is a great foil to Arthur Curry -Good humour
Cons: -Some jokes don’t quite land as well -Black Manta could’ve been better -Dolph Lundgren was completely unrecognizable, and that ain’t a good thing
EDIT: 8/10

Pros
the acting the campy style (Kidman delivering a convincing dramatic speech while dressed like a fish is priceless) the design of the underwater city and use of pretty colors the roof top chase scene the score
Cons
the plot Jason Momoa looks nothing like the comic book Aquaman Unconvincing green screen backgrounds (remember when director's actually filmed on location?) The final underwater action scene is a mess
5.5/10

Pros:
- James Wan's direction giving a much needed sense of scale to the action and spectacle that was sorely missing in a lot of recent DC movies. - The design of Atlantis, its army, and the various sea creatures. - Jason Momoa as Aquaman. - Patrick Wilson making Ocean Master a credible threat. Probably the best DCEU villain since General Zod. - Mera being a competent warrior. That winery scene!?! - Jango Fett gettin Chase Meridian. - The Sicily rooftop chase - Octopus drummer. - The buoyant adventurous tone. - The trench attack sequence. - Julie Andrews playing a skyscraper sized tentacled kaiju. - That awesome finale battle between Aquaman and Ocean Master's army. - A superhero movie where both parents are alive and well for once. Cons:
- Pitbull. Just why? Why Pitbull? - The Sahara sequence is fairly long. Indeed, the movie can be trimmed down a good 15 minutes. - Aquaman & Mera's slap-slap-kiss romance. - Black Manta being underutilized. - Jason Momoa's narration book ending the movie is really unnecessary. ....all and all I have a blast at Aquaman. It may be overstuffed but I admire its gonzo fun vibe, the game cast, and its go-for-broke attitude. In terms of ranking for DC movies, in the current shared universe, it's probably my second favorite on par with Man of Steel. I still liked Wonder Woman better.

Wow, you are really specific with that stuff. Yeah, the octopus drummer was cool and King Orm is one of the better DCEU villains so far.

Pros:
-some okay action scenes and VFX
-I thought Black Manta was the better of the two villains. We actually saw what motivated him, as opposed to...
Cons:
-Ocean Master. Humans are baaad, but the only thing we see and aren't told turns out to be a false flag op. Also, I know he's supposed to be your muse, Wan, but Patrick Wilson playing the *younger* brother of Mamoa?
-way too long
-making Aquaman a dopey dudebro is blatantly riding Thor's coattails. Never thought I'd say this, but I liked the direction Snyder wanted to take the character.
-seriously, an Aquaman movie doesn't need to be 2 and a half hours long
4/10

Pros: The underwater scenes work wonderfully well. Everything from scale, visuals and visibility. Only thing I would have liked to see them expand on is the day to day lives of their citizens. They just appear in the arena fights.
Cons: The story is too predictable and follows a very linear story

He has less motivation that Black Manta and yet is still the far more interesting of the two. Black Manta's motivation is as generic as it gets. "You killed my father." Not to mention the actor's performance is a complete bore. Edit: Isn't King Orm's motivation that he wants to become Oceanmaster so he can destroy the human world because of what they have done to the ocean with pollution and whatnot and because of his mother leaving her people to be with a human?

5/10
Pros: For something I was more or less dragged to see, this was surprisingly enjoyable. Silly and overlong, like most superhero movies these days, but well-paced and, unlike the two earlier DC movies I bothered with, this one at least has a sense of humour. Willem Dafoe is a marvel, keeping a straight face and projecting charisma even when spouting nonsense.
Cons: I barely remember the plot. Some of the effects were cheesy in the extreme. Patrick Wilson is a damp squib.

Pros:
This was no Snyder serious-fest, it had a sense of fun that apparently is what fans want to see.
Cons:
He seems tougher than Affleck's Batman.

It helps when your villain is supposed to be sympathetic. The fact that you have to ask is why Orn is a shitty villain and why I liked Manta better.

6/10 pros: Agreed
Cons: Plot - Agreed
Black Manta motivation - practically killing his dad right in front of him works for me. Plus he was already a murderous A hole, so what more motivation does he really need?
SFX - I honestly think they did the best they could. Sure, there have been underwater movies before, but never with this level of interaction and sustained time. And as for the dock scene you mention, sure, but I think the point was to make it look as romantically idealized as possible. It wasn't an accident or lack of ability, it was a choice. Maybe not a good one, but a choice nonetheless. After all, surely they could have just filmed the scene on a real dock instead. But instead they went with idealized. Like Leo and Kate in Titanic. lol
Dolph - Really? That's one of your issues with this movie? That's neither here nor there. He's not an A-lister, never was, and he got to more in this than he did in Creed 2, which is a Rocky movie, which is where you'd expect he'd get to do a lot more. So... meh.
Overall, I really enjoyed it. 8/10
