So does it get rebuilt or what. I'm reading it was due to construction malpractice of sorts... which could be a f'n dead end forever in France whichever company is involved with that.

I hate seeing historical buildings and monuments destroyed as a CGI sight gag in movies, much less in real life. Such a tragedy.

Not the first story I have heard of some dumb ass repair crew burning down a church they were trying to fix. A few decades ago now the church where my parents got married was burned to the ground because some retard came up with the idea that using a blow torch to strip away old lead paint off wood paneling was a good idea.  A few years ago another group of idiots burned down a church because an electrical spark set off some wood dust/shavings from the wood they were cutting for new floor boards. |

It seems that the structure is ok. The spire that collapsed was a 19th century addition, but the roof is a huge loss. That was the original wood and it's amazing it lasted as long as it did, and equally sad that it's totally gone now.
I wonder if the folks at the Catholic league and other members of the church will be as willing to blame this on the Church's own conduct and see this as some sort of retribution the way they've blamed others for the tragedies that have befallen them.
