With all this recent talk of Laughton and Quinn … a thread about Paris Landmarks in Films has been brewing … it has become more focused due to today's horrific event ! Images, essays, personal stories of visits (perhaps inspired by movies) … welcomed, encouraged and appreciated. CHARADE

The successful Disney film as reported earlier. Incidentally featuring a climax where the cathedral is surrounded by a lake of burning...oil?

warning .. anti Disney Rant : The Disney bastardization of the Hunchback of Notre Dame is an abomination (imo) ! The only resemblance to the original story is the location and the names of the characters and hopefully they won't be brought up again in this thread. We can debate about it another time and place. .

From season 17 (1979), "City of Death," one of my favorite stories from my favorite TV show Doctor Who: Classic Series. The two Time Lords, The Doctor (Tom Baker) and Romana (Lalla Ward) land the TARDIS in Paris.

Great Dr.W ! Except for some brief stock footage of those two Paris sites (with the Eiffel Tower in rear projection), all other scenes were shot on the Warner lot. My Lovely Wife and I took the studio tour in 2012. Where Bogart and Bergman are seen sitting outside the cafe Apertifs is still on the lot. The store facade that served as the cafe is the last remaining "Casablanca" location.

I knew that Hunchback had been done and redone but had no idea that it was THIS often en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hunchback_of_Notre-Dame#FilmsIncluding : La Esmeralda, opera by Louise Bertin (1836), libretto by Victor Hugo. Background on the Book: " Victor Hugo began writing Notre-Dame de Paris in 1829, largely to make his contemporaries more aware of the value of the Gothic architecture, which was neglected and often destroyed to be replaced by new buildings or defaced by replacement of parts of buildings in a newer style. For instance, the medieval stained glass panels of Notre-Dame de Paris had been replaced by white glass to let more light into the church.[1] This explains the large descriptive sections of the book, which far exceed the requirements of the story. A few years earlier, Hugo had already published a paper entitled Guerre aux Démolisseurs (War to the Demolishers) specifically aimed at saving Paris' medieval architecture. "
