That one will be remembered alright, but positively or negatively?! I happen to like it.
I totally agree bravomailer it certainly is a catchy song that will hold on and never let go - in a positive & fun way of course .
Thanks so much for your reply here too . This is my thoughts on the Toni Basil song, 'Mickey'. Just a fan-made video of "Wayne's World 2" and "Vanilla Sky" combined. They don't know the rest of the lyrics just as the car crashes.
If I had to name some '80s pop/new wave/rock songs that feel unforgettable to me, I'd list, in order by band:
Heat Of The Moment by 'Asia' Heaven Is A Place On Earth by 'Belinda Carlisle' Rebel Yell by 'Billy Idol' Video Killed The Radio Star by 'The Buggles' Sunglasses At Night by 'Corey Hart' (I Just) Died In Your Arms by 'Cutting Crew' Enjoy The Silence by 'Depeche Mode' Sweet Dreams by 'Eurythmics' Head Over Heels by 'The Go-Go's' Crockett's Theme by 'Jan Hammer' Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) by 'Journey' Kids In America by 'Kim Wilde' Self Control by 'Laura Branigan' 99 Luftballons by 'Nena' True Faith by 'New Order' If You Leave by 'OMD' Always On My Mind by 'Pet Shop Boys' Face To Face by 'Real Life' Jessie's Girl by 'Rick Springfield' Don't You (Forget About Me) by 'Simple Minds' Tainted Love by 'Soft Cell' This Must Be The Place by 'Talking Heads' Head Over Heels by 'Tears For Fears' Lay Your Hands On Me by 'The Thompson Twins' Voices Carry by 'Til Tuesday' With Or Without You by 'U2' The Promise by 'When In Rome'

That "Careless Whisper" has some staying power. I imagine it being played in elevators in the year 3030.

Thank you once more, mszanadu . After re-reading this thread, my recommendations and your ear for music. Friends all around, too . I re-heard the Nena '99 Luftballoons' song over again, it's been a while. And, just look at her in this video, in recent time. I know not all of these '80s singers and bands are living in fortune and fame. But Nena is super cute, and rocking it out at this live concert. All '80s singers were cute, even the metal ones ha. And Nena is like 57-ish in this video. I'd get her autograph in a heart beat! To '80s music!

Katrina and her Waves. Walking On Sunshine. Oh yeah.
Funny thing about that.
I was at Walmart, and was looking in the CD bargain bin. The odd time, there is an 80s compilation. However, being a BIG 80s music nut, I usually have most of the songs already.
Looking at one compilation, it must have had re-recorded versions of the songs. One of them was:
"Walking on Sunshine - Katrina"
Katrina, but NOT her Waves.

I guess I should answer the question, huh?
The only one I can think of that would live on is "Oh Yeah" by Yello.
Gained popularity by being used in the movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". Movie was directed by John Hughes. IIRC, he used that song in another of his movies.
For me personally, a good chunk of songs of the songs on my iPod were originally released in the 80s. So, they will live on with me forever.
I, for one, am OK with that.
