My abiding memory of Billy was a game at Celtic Park in the late 50s where he was up against a sneaky centre-forward who was something of a shirt tugger. Billy kept looking to the ref for some help but none was forthcoming. Celtic won the game and at the end, Billy took off his shirt, carefully folded it up and presented it to his tormentor on bended knee. I thought that he was going to punch him on the nose!
