8/10. Really great film and I think this officially Dennis Villsomethingsomething as one of the best directors of the 21st century. That's about the only reason I'm really hopeful about the upcoming Bladerunner sequel, it's directed by him Arrival proves he might just pull it off. With the response its gotten it looks like you were right. Seems like he pulled off what was practically impossible.

Maybe we'll finally get a proper Dune adaptation. He apparently did it with Blade Runner

One more day before the movie is out I won't be watching it this week, but should see it early next week. And I cannot wait! (although I have to learn to curb my enthousiasm, that rarely ends well)

That's a book that needs a series, imo, perhaps something for HBO?

It will be great. But I heard that Villeneuve is in talks for Dune.so,for a movie it's a great choice

Ooh, that I hadn't heard yet. That would be very interesting, to say the least.

I rewatched it last night with my family. Score's going up to a 9/10. I got a lot more out of it this time around and I already want to watch it again. It's smart, intelligent and emotional. The last 10 minutes of the film brought me damn close to tears.
My ranking of Dennis Villeneuve's films:
1. Blade Runner 2049 2. Prisoners 3/4. Arrival and Sicario (I watched both of them this week. Having a really tough time deciding which I like more). 5. Incendies 6. Enemy

9/10 A Lifetime movie masquerading as 'thoughtful' SF. How so?

9/10 A Lifetime movie masquerading as 'thoughtful' SF. How so? Because the emotional impact we are being pushed towards is nothing more than we'd expect from a cheap Lifetime movie. We don't even feel that much because there is no chemistry between Adams and Renner whatsoever and why would there be? There is no reason to even understand why they would ever fall in love in the first place. Renner just says it with about the same level of emotionless delivery we saw between them the whole film. The big reveal about the events as future ones is emotionless, too, even if they are in a big production movie with nice cinematography. This is film we are trained to believe is intelligent and thoughtful because that's what we are told by critics and others. Not to mention the silly story about aliens needing our future help and their concept of time. Honestly, that's an interesting area to explore but here the execution is terrible. And Adams and Renner and Whitaker are all completely unconvincing in their roles. Adams in particular gives such a one note performance that I got tired of her. It's truly one of the worst SF films I've seen in a long time.

8. It's not perfect, and there's something missing from the ending, but it was pretty good.

Honestly I haven't been able to stop thinking about the film since I rewatched it and it just might be a 10/10. I'm going to watch it one more time but I'm beginning to feel more and more that this really is a complete masterpiece.
