The last person to post on this suggestion board was joetorrence, who is now a deleted member. There have been several threads about 'what happened to?' him, and other posters who have left, since their posting history is deleted, there is no way to find their last post that might have explained 'why'.
What if there was a board, or just a specific thread, where people could post their reasons, or just to say good-bye, that could be accessed even after their history is gone?
Just a thought...

There is nothing stopping anyone here from posting a "goodbye cruel forum" farewell, but the truth is that sometimes you'll just never know why someone deleted their account. And quite frankly, I'd say most times it's probably none of anyone's business but their own.
BTW, unless their post history is wiped (which is an extremely rare occurrence), it's still here. Deleting an account does not delete any posts made with that account.

I like it as an idea.

It would be nice, but there's no guarantee anyone would use it.

How about an 'I'd like someone to self delete' thread?

An example would be miccee. Am I just a hopelessly analog watch in a digital world, or is there a trick I don't know about?

When an account is deleted, the convenience of simply clicking recent posts/threads on its profile page is also gone, but you can use the Search page to locate its posts. It makes it more difficult, but not impossible. Here's an example: imdb2.freeforums.net/search/results?where_board_subboard=104&captcha_id=captcha_search&what_at_least_one=miccee&who_only_made_by=0&display_as=0&search=SearchA few of Miccee's posts can be found in that particular search result.

Wow. 1. I learned something new today! Something digital! 2. Those posts were quite a blast from the past. Geez, those two (miccee and cupcakes) sure could go at it. Kinda scary! 3. Thanks for the primer, Admin, that is too cool! The search page kind of reminds me of the search function on eBay, so I will try it with a few other deleted folks.

There is also a way to get all the posts made by a deleted member but it's a bit trickier and requires using the developer console on your browser. When somebody deletes their account, after a time you can no longer find them by typing their name into the search field. However, you can display all posts for anybody, deleted or not, by searching using their user ID number. Deleted members no longer have a profile so you can't get it from the link on their mini-profile, which will no longer exist. But if you use the developer console's inspect feature and hover over their avatar, you can still find it. This would be the tricky part for less computer savvy folks so I'll attempt to explain it as concisely as I can. First, you would need to find a post by the deleted user. Once you have, open the developer console. On most browsers, this can be done by pressing F12 but it may vary. It will open a sub-window at the bottom of the screen. Which will end up looking like this: Now, in the middle left of this image, I've highlighted a button with a red box. This is the inspect tool. Click it and you'll notice when you hover over certain parts of the page in the top window, the text in the bottom window will change. What we want to do is hover the mouse over the grey baldy where their avatar used to be. (as shown). This will take you to the HTML that contains information about their avatar. (This is the text highlighted by the second red box). This is where we can get their old user ID. The important bit is bolded below: The number shown in that field is their old user ID. In this case, 111. From there, we can do a search using this link: imdb2.freeforums.net/search/results?captcha_id=captcha_search&display_as=0&search=Search&who_at_least_one=111, where "who_at_least_one" is their ID number, and retrieve all posts made by them. Easy peasy. Right?

I'm not sure about other browsers, but I'm sure they all have something similar. Either way, that's brilliant. Thanks, bartlesby .

Sometimes I over-complicate things.

Sometimes I over-complicate things. I'm not sure what you mean. Please elaborate. (haha) I'm not sure if you're serious or not so I'm actually going to elaborate. Just a bit, though. Bear with me. I tend to overlook the quick and simple parts of solving a problem. A lot of times, if I'm not immediately familiar with the solution to a problem, I race to find a solution and just reply with whatever steps I took to solve it. Later, I either realize I added a ton of extra unnecessary steps or it's pointed by somebody else and I'm like... ohh, yeah, that is better. Your response saying just right-clicking the avatar and choosing Inspect Element shaves off the need to explain anything about the developer console and it's also a lot faster to get you where you need to be. That's the way to go. Just sayin.

Thank you, Admin and bartlesby, wow, pretty soon I won't be able to say I'm an analog watch in a digital world anymore. My late husband would be so proud of me! He was using computers back when they filled entire rooms, and he was super smart and good with all this stuff; however, he didn't have the patience to teach a Luddite like me. Thanks again!!!

I find it odd the one that I wanted isn't there. I think it was in 2017, but not sure. Not all of them are there. But thanks!
