Fernando Alonso is returning to F1 next year, filling Ricciardo's seat, and partnering with Ocon at Renault.
I like Alonso, but it seems like an odd step for Renault to go with someone who's over the hill. It smacks of a stopgap. Maybe this is the result of Covid-19 and Alonso's return will bring in the much needed sponsorship money easier than a young gun would.
Admittedly, he had flashes of brilliance with a very poor McLaren car, and he has a hunger for racing as he chases the triple crown, but have a feeling that F1 politics could grind away at his enthusiasm.
Anyway, good luck to him.

Well this is going to be interesting. I really rate Alonso, he's had some spectacular drives in the past but i can't see him doing much in a Renault but it will be interesting to see how he does.

Yay, a nice boring predictable race, I bet The Sow Is Mine loved it... Qualifying was better, Hamilton in the rain, anybody better - NOPE! Hammer Time

What the hell, I thought it was Saturday and forgot about the race. This is just terrible.

Hammer Time To be honest my views were not much different about last race than the views of The Sow is Mine. Yes, there was some good last minute twist in the last race but it was comparable to a close cricket match in which the actual cricketing action was poor. Like both teams batted poorly, dropped catches and didn't show any enthusiasm in the ground but because both sides were so poor the match eventually became interesting.

As predicted the second race at the same circuit isn't as good as the first but it was ok.
The qualifying however was excellent with some real edge of the seat moments. Hats off to the drivers pushing in those conditions and to the organisers for letting them. A stunning lap from Lewis to take pole and some amazing onboard footage from Max. George Russell was the other stand out for us.
Ferrari's hitting each other again! That was a rookie error from Charles. Are they heading for their worst year for a while?
So normal order resumes with a Mercedes one two. Can it be the year Lewis surpasses Michael's win total and equals his championship tally? It's looking like a strong possibility to me.
A good drive from Lando again, well done that man!

Best bit was Max coming back at Bottas after he'd initially been overtaken. That was great. Pitting once Bottas had pulled away was a no brainer.
Some solid drives from the mid tier drivers: Perez, Stroll and Norris. Enjoyed that more than the first race: race one was too scrappy for my tastes. Only enterraining in a train wreck sort of way.
Leclerc taking out Vettel was pretty funny. With apologies for harshness, Seb's been a massive sook for the past two seasons and I always like him being given something to sook about.
The only way Lewis isn't breaking Schuey's wins record this year is it Bottas wins every race. Mercedes look a long way ahead of Red Bull. As for if he equals Schuey's championship record: same answer. It's between he and Bottas.

I can't see Bottas taking the title this year if Lewis continues to bring his A game to the rest of the races. I like Bottas though and would be happy to see him get a title under his belt. We have been big fans of Lewis here for a few years once he'd calmed down a bit but this BLM business he's got involved in has tainted that quite a bit. My missus now supports Max purely for not taking the knee.
I also watched Indy Car last night and once again the racing is far better than F1.

Solid win for Mercedes. A little fun moment with Bottas and Verstappen. Good midfield racing. Albon needs to be replaced. I miss Ricciardo at RB. Ferrari being Ferrari. Russel needs a better car. Good drive from Norris.
Pink Mercedes under investigation after Renault protest. Bottas has a new Mercedes deal for 2021.

I would never take a knee to support a neo-marxist movement, no matter how worthy a cause they'd attached themselves to (and racial equality is certainly a worthy cause). Lewis doesn't particularly bother me as whenever any celebrity starts talking about anything political, I switch off completely. Whether it's veganism, climate change or this: old Polish saying "Whenever someone tries to involve me in their nonsense I just tell them not my circus, not my monkeys."

I support him as much as I support Lewis both of whom are my favs. But If Max refuses to get involved in what I consider a political movement directly influenced and promoted by one of the two corrupt political parties of America, then I increase my respect for Max.

Yes, along with Leclerc, Raikkonen, Sainz, Kvyat and Giovinazzi. I completely agree AJ. Along with Max those drivers got our full support here and we supported them in the race. Kimi is a no brainer though, he definitely won't get involved with anything like kneeling for no good reason. He generally does and says what he wants

I forgot about that. It looks like Lewis is the only one wearing a black lives matter t-shirt.

What the hell is a "Stryan" or "Styrian" GP? Is that the name of the sponsor? Since when are F1 GPs NOT named after the host country?

I had misspelled he name. It is Styrian GP. From wiki - "The race was named for Styria, the state of Austria that the Red Bull Ring is located in." Yes, Usually the names are after the host country. Race took place in Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria. Spielberg is in Styria. There is one GP named as Tuscan GP later in the season.

I haven't followed Formula 1 in many years. Are there two GPs in Austria now, creating a need to differentiate between them?
Is the Tuscan GP in addition to the traditional Italy GP at Monza and to the San Marino GP at Imola (none of which are in Tuscany, as far as I know)?

I think it's because of Corona more than any plans they had. If you want to be really confused, check out the MotoGP schedule. A lot of different names for "We Need to Have a Lot of Races in Spain This Year."
