Vince Young was another head scratcher. After that Rose Bowl in '06, I would have bet money that he would have been a star. He was ROy and had a couple Pro Bowls, but never lived up to his college game. I remember some odd factors. He supposedly scored historically bad on the Wonderlic test. And Jeff Fisher didn't like him, preferring Kerry Collins.
You never can tell. No one thought Ryan Leaf would be a bust, it was just a matter if he was better than Peyton or not. Jim Plunkett was a huge bust until we went to the Raiders. Even then he didn't play and never would have except Tom Flores didn't want to start rookie Marc Wilson when Dan Pastorini got hurt. Now he's in the HOF talk. Testaverde and Carson Palmer struggled until they got to a different team. Could Russel and Leaf have succeeded in another situation?

Akili Smith was a member of that 99' class that had QBs go 1-3. Tim Couch went #1-Bust, Donovan McNabb went #2-Good career, then Smith #3-Bust. Throw in Culpepper at 11 & Cade McNown at #12 and it aint exactly the 83' draft class! I forgot about Timmy Couch. Quite a few people thought Couch could have been a quality NFL QB if he hadn't taken such a beating his rookie year. Destroyed him physically and mentally.
I always wonder why Todd Blackledge isn't mentioned more when "NFL QB busts" is brought up. I went to Penn State when Blackledge was quarterback. He was good but no one thought he was NFL material. Typical Penn State QB, like Chuck Fusina before, Christian Hackenburg later. To pass on Kelly and Marino to take Toddy is monumental. Even Tony Eason and Ken O'Brien had moments. He was a catastrophe but you rarely hear him mentioned with Leaf and JaMarcus. You'll hear Big Jawn Football's name before Blackledge
Yeah, I never thought Couch would be a stud but I think he could've been a good pro if not for the beating he took early. I feel the same with David Carr. Good call on Blackledge. How he went over the guys you mentioned is mind boggling!

Josh Rosen unclaimed on waivers Posted by Michael David Smith on August 18, 2021
After the 49ers got rid of quarterback Josh Rosen, the rest of the NFL passed on him as well.
Rosen went unclaimed on waivers today, according to Field Yates of ESPN.
That makes the 24-year-old Rosen an unrestricted free agent, free to sign with any team, but at this point it’s entirely possible that no team would sign him to so much as a minimum-salary contract to be a third-string quarterback. He has now been on the Cardinals, Dolphins, Buccaneers and 49ers and has yet to show anything indicating he belongs in the NFL.
That’s a stunning fall for a player who was the 10th overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft. Rosen looked like he had a lot of potential while playing at UCLA, but it just hasn’t worked for him in the NFL. His pro football career may be over.
