For me, Chris Cooper was the glue held the movie Adaptation together. That it the very definition of a supporting role, not screen time, but a performance that isn't the lead (which AMPAS gets wrong sometimes) but without it, the movie would founder.

Christoph Waltz was brilliant too. Tough choices here. That's why I often find the supporting categories more interesting than the leads.

There were some great winners in this category. This was the one acting category that the Academy got right in that decade. I'm gonna have to go with Chris Cooper. I prefer Waltz in his second win.

Javier Bardem. Gotta be one of the best portrayals of a cold and sociopathic killer.

Good as Waltz was in Inglourious Basterds, I too prefer him in Django Unchained. He carried the entire picture, yet was indeed a supporting role. He fleshed out King Schultz to just what the movie needed. With Christoph in IB, and Cooper in A, I saw the movies before the nominations for those years were announced. While watching the movies, I said "this guy is going to win the Supporting Oscar for this."
