Whether you go to the theaters now, or 40 years ago... Were there certain movies that brought in "bad people"? (label and describe that anyway you want)

The way I see it as a general guideline... if a movie is too popular it's more likely to bring in the trash then if a movie is a bit more off the radar. that's pretty much the bottom line is the way I see it, which probably means Super Hero movies and the like that bring the big crowds.
I think things are like this for the most part as you could even see it with Breaking Bad on the IMDb forums for example... back in Season 3 the forums were still largely fine but by the time Season 4 aired, the show became too popular, and in came the kids who goofed off and pretty much mostly ruined the Breaking Bad forums on IMDb.
on my most recent occasions of going to the theaters I did not have a issue. but then again the movies I went to see probably don't attract the trash as I have only been to the theaters three times in the current decade... True Grit (2010)/Drive (2011)/In Time (2011) and I did not have a issue. although with the two from 2011 I viewed at the first showing in my area and since those movies were off the radar I did not even have that many in the theaters (from memory, I would guess 10-ish people (maybe 20-ish tops)). with True Grit, which I viewed in the theaters late Dec 2010, while it had more people on that one (as the theater had a good amount of people on that one), it does not seem Westerns are popular enough nowadays to attract the trash. if I had to take a guess... I imagine Super Hero movies probably have issues because of the types of crowds they typically attract and do plenty of $ at the theaters which means a lot of people are watching them. but with that said... I am sure there are exceptions were less popular movies can be a issue and more popular movies might be okay here and there but I suspect playing the odds, as a general rule, the more popular a movie is, the more likely you are to stumble into those who act up and have no respect for others etc.
hell, even prior to the current 2010's decade I have not been to the theaters all that much (off the top of my head I go back as far as late 1980's as a kid (I want to say the first movie I can slightly remember in the theaters is 'Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989)') but for the most part I would be more of the 1990's to date person if you want to stick more to the double digit ages on up and the 1990's was largely pre-cell phone era pretty much) and I never personally had any real issues in the theaters. but then again I suspect the bulk of my theater viewing (or at least a good portion of it) was prior to the smart phone-ish era (possibly even cell phone era in general to some degree) which I suspect the smart-phone era is when things started to really go downhill as I suspect many are addicted to their smart phones and can't get off of them for more than a brief time etc. but the way I see it, if someone can't even get off their smart phone for a couple hours or so to watch a movie you should not even be in the theaters in the first place as short of a major emergency, it can wait til your done watching the movie.

I go to the movies and if it's a horror film, it's full of people talking, screaming, making jokes (probably a way of coping with horror) etc... It's the worst.

True Grit and Drive are awesome movies not designed for general movie going plebs. Much rather watch those kinda movies with low audience numbers than busy showings with people there just to kill time or attending for freebies.

I remember seeing 22 Jump Street when it first came out (opening night) and there was a lot of trash there. Phones on, talking, yelling/laughing at the jokes. Big mistake on my part to go on opening night I guess.

I remember when American Sniper was released, social media was full of racist asswipes claiming how it made them want to go out and kill Muslims/Arabs.

Occasionally at major blockbusters or horror films that were megahits, I remember some obnoxious audience members. Not enough to ruin the movie though.

I remember when American Sniper was released, social media was full of racist asswipes claiming how it made them want to go out and kill Muslims/Arabs. As I recall they said they were going to kill the towelheads ... However, it goes both ways. Then there were Muslims claiming it was propaganda against Islam. In reality, Clint Eastwood did a fantastic job making a character piece about a man who did what he believed in and was affected with PTSD and how to deal with being a civilian after the war. Clint actually improved upon the book by far. The book was just a bunch of Hoo-rah military macho BS.

charzhinoBefore Drive was released I kind of just knew that movie was going to be great for me given the clips posted of it online and then I viewed it opening day at the first showing in my area and I was not disappointed. but with that said... it's since taken a hit for me even though it's still among my favorite movies (basically my Top 166 movies). but it did peak at a 9/10+ for me but currently sits at a 7/10. it's my most re-watched movie released in the current 2010's decade as I have seen it eight times now which is outside of the norm for me as normally if I score a movie a 7/10 or higher, after I have seen it twice, I typically won't re-watch it more than once a year at that point and could be once every few years or so. but with Drive that was not the case. as for True Grit (2010)... it's currently my #5 Western ever and within my Top 46 movies in general. in fact, I think True Grit (2010) (8/10) is MUCH better than True Grit (1969) (4/10) as short of maybe John Wayne etc, I think the 2010 movie is superior across the board as it's got better cinematography etc. @thegodfather as for your general American Sniper thing... I think the real life story/person is more interesting than the movie which is average/forgettable.

Dont get why you would watch it 8 times, which you admit is rare for you, and have the rsting drop from 9 to 7. What was so bad about it on rewatches?

Well I'd say The Birth of the Nation is the ultimate answer, since it literally sparked a rebirth of the KKK.

I'm curious how audiences were a long time ago.

Not that it applies to horror movie crowds in general, but reminded me of an old Roger Ebert review in which he turns his attention to certain audience members: I Spit on Your Grave (1980) Roger Ebert review

Kids movies. Each parent allows their kid(s) to do whatever they want. It's not a playground, though. The worst part is asking them to calm their kids down doesn't usually work. They'll say things like "They're just kids. Why do you wanna ruin the fun?", "Do you know how exhausting it is to be a parent? This is the only place where they can be free without it being dangerous and I can rest" and "Why do you even care about paying attention? It's just a kids movie."

No idea. My instinct is to say children's movies because they tend to bring out children. Children who are loud and unruly...sometimes.
Not that it's a big concern. The last film I saw in theaters I was positive was a children's movie was The Lego Movie and I thought that was excellent.

That's when one should reply, "What about EVERYONE else' fun? Maybe you shouldn't have kids? Maybe they should have been blowjobs!"
