I thought about that, but really Falcon needs the story infusion more than Bucky. He’s probably the lamest Avenger without it. Bucky is awesome just being Bucky.

I think they missed an opportunity to establish a probable tension for the two with their own Disney+ series here(Who really is more deserving to wield the shield?)

That scene was ridiculously jarring for me. Bucky is Steve's longest friend. He's also a more proven soldier in the field. Definitely has more experience. His fighting style will also allow him to utilize the shield better.
Yet for some inexplicable reason Cap gives the shield to Sam? Why?
And what makes it even worse is that old Cap doesn't even say high or goodbye to Bucky. He's just completely ignored.

He knew when they went to bring Cap back. They spoke before. Bucky probably told him to pass it to Sam, not thinking about the fact Sam isn't a super soldier. Who looked around? He knew.

This could possibly be what the show is all about. Maybe they pass it back and forth on missions? They both know neither of them is worthy of it alone.

Too much conjecture. I saw that Bucky was the one who encouraged Sam to talk to Steve... but seeing as Bucky also looked worried that Steve didn't come back and how he looked surprised when Steve did appear, I doubt they talked before hand.

She's right. www.msn.com/en-us/movies/news/avengers-endgame-directors-answer-captain-america-mystery/ar-AAAJoIb?ocid=spartandhpI mentioned somewhere on the board that this gives them opportunities to tell other Cap stories, and maybe that's what they were thinking all along. It's closure for the character in terms of the narrative of the MCU, but in reality it opens up all kinds of possibilities to use Evans going forward.

Still doesn't explain why Cap chose to hand off his shield to Falcon though, not when Bucky was a way better candidate.

It also wastes all that terrific foreshadowing. Bucky has held the shield in every movie he has been in (except for IW)!

Bucky is tainted.
Sam is not.

I mean, what is Sam gonna do with that shield? Put it in front of him as he flies and use it as a windshield?

It makes much more sense on a storytelling perspective, but come on, we need Falcon to become a badass too!

I was fine with. It's a tall order given that Falcon's an ordinary guy, but I got the sense several movies ago that taking on Sam was never about training a partner, but a replacement.
