Would "Zulu" count as an English western? Well, I have kept a personal favorite of mine, " The proposition", out of this list cause it is set in Australia. Yet to watch Zulu, though.

themanwithnoshame GIANT is not a "western". It is a 20th Century Drama that takes place in Texas. Adhering to the IMDb listings sometimes is a mistake. They often seem to have been made by people who have never seen the film. I agree with those who say that Sierra Madre is NOT a western. Also have to remember that these "genre" listings are contributed to by the same people who will insist to their dying day that "Die Hard" is a Christmas Movie.

Well, it DOES take place during a Christmas party.

It is really hard for me to pick 'The Greatest' of all time. To me this is impossible. I give credit to the OP for this poll and I am not trying to be snarky or mean spirited in my post. However, 'The Greatest' by Decade? By Era?, By Directors?, would help me narrow it down. Maybe simply 'The Top Five Greatest of All Time' would be more attainable for me anyways. I liked 'True Grit' (2010). I Liked 'High Noon'. I Liked 'Unforgiven'. I Liked 'Outlaw Josey Wales'. All for different reasons.
Now for example: I noticed 'The Good, Bad, And the Ugly' is ahead in this poll. Fair Enough. I remember when that came out in the 60's and I BEGGED to go see it but my parents would not take me. Boy, did I EVER want to go to see this film back then. (Same for the Bond films back then...LOL) Now would it still be the highest rated on this poll (or any poll) if it had a mediocre sound track? Meaning, was it the music that swayed most people's 'Vote'?

Never seen it to have an opinion. Unfortunately, can't remove it now.

themanwithnoshameThe Non-Western GIANT is worth watching if only because of the incredible cast. It's very much a "product of its time" film story and attitude-wise. The polls are rather awkward in that repairs cannot be made other than nuking and completely starting over.

But I kept it on the list anyway. I wish I was more meticulous and ruthless. While Giant has got no votes, Sierra Madre being the iconic and well loved movie it is, has notched up a few.

The poll has been locked. Movies receiving 3 votes or more shall be considered to be great Westerns and ranked accordingly.
We will have a new poll for the best of the rest.

This will probably remain the definitive list on Westerns on IMDB V2.0. Time for me to move on.

This will probably remain the definitive list on Westerns on IMDB V2.0. Time for me to move on. A list that includes the 2010 version of "True Grit" and not the vastly superior version from 1969 is hardly definitive. And there other notable westerns excluded like "The Professionals"...

What? No love for Blazing Saddles or Support Your Local Gunfighter/Sheriff? I would have given some support to all three of those films.
