I've been to the Living Seas at Epcot Center several times and it's awesome. Somehow I've never been to the worlds largest aquarium tho and it's right here in Atlanta. I'm finally checking it out on Friday. Taking a half day off and everything. Not my employees of course.
Anyway how do you feel about aquariums? Do any of you feel they are evil? Are they the underwater version of mankind's most evil entertainment the circus? Should I feel guilty while watching the sea creatures frolic on Friday? Also I wonder if any aquarium serves fish in their food court?

I personally do feel uneasy about some parts of these parks, especially those with dolpinhs, sharks, rays or penguins (or god forbid whales), who are really not meant to be kept in a small loud space in captivity or used as entertainment props.
I only see these parks as good if they serve as hospitals or rehab for hurt ones or work on keeping endangered speices in existance.
but seeing a shark or dolphin swim in circles in a tank thats smaller than my flat breaks my heart. knowing they normally need a much bigger space to develop properly and be active they way nature meant.

It's not a park. Just an aquarium. No rides or shows where you get splashed. It is the worlds largest aquarium tho so hopefully the tanks will be much larger than your apartment. Do you have a 13 acre apartment? If so Te salut, Don Nora.

If so Te salut, Don Nora. i thought you were asking in general about aquariums (park for shortness). even the biggest ones have nowhere near what nature had in plan for most of the specimen kept in the park. even the biggest ones are fraction of what a lot of then need. i mean i am not talking about starfish or lobsters but big fish or water mamals, who normally frolick for miles and miles and change teritories and are used to swiming a long distance to get to their mates or food. lets put it this way - if their lifespan in captivity is shorter than in nature its bad for sure. dont get me wrong i like looking at marine life but i do feel bad in front of most of the tanks. some animals may be happy or well adjusted there, i hear seals actually like the tasks and all, but some are for sure less happy / well adjusted than they would be in the wild. plus i think the world should evolve beyond showing animals for fun and education. there is documentaries and cgi for that. just work at protecting endangered spieces but dont trap animals just to prance them around for kids.

I love seeing these creatures swim around underwater, but I do feel like any animal parkland, zoo or aquarium, that it is containment and confinement. The animal needs to be in its natural habitat and not gawked at for entertainment value and to make a profit.
There is always an exception to a rule, and animals today do get the care they need, especially if they are being treated for injuries and\or have had their own natural habitat destroyed. I think it is nicer when we can watch a nice doco film on them in their own surroundings, on a giant screen and in Imax or 3D or something like that.
I only go to zoos occasionally and it is nice to see the creatures, but I still feel rotten for most of them. I just have to be selective here in my reasoning and that the admission price is helping them be looked after.

I just commented similar, before I read this response of yours Nora. It is projected that we are doing the right thing by caring for them in captivity due to them being endangered, but at the end of the day, is it really just exhibitionism and exploitation of the animal?

I wonder 247,482 years from now, we might be populating ocean moons of the galaxy with terrestrial wildlife. You know, the Great White Plastic Sharks & Plastic Penguins.
