I remember originally these two movies were going to be called Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2.
But then I assume that after other Part 1/Part 2 movies underwhelmed liked Mockinjay and Divergent and it turned out people just didn't like the idea, they changed the names. But yeah at first this was Part 2.

Or am I crazy? Doesn't it make sense that the next Avengers film would be Avengers 4? It’s more Avenger 1, part 3, because it’s continuing that exact plotline. But so did Guardians of the Galaxy, and so did Age of Ultron being a side effect movie of one of the stones but still dealt with Thor seeing Thanos coming, so how do we define part 1, 2, 3 beyond tone? I thought this had a shockingly different tone and because of the time jump it did feel like a separate movie. |

I think the film is sufficiently different to be considered a 4th one, No different than Empire Strikes Back to Return of the Jedi or any number of movies.

It's too grand to just be considered part two of Infinity War. It's a closure to pretty much the entire MCU up to this point.

Avengers movies don't have numbers. Believe or not sequels can have their own titles. So you can consider it anything you want (that's cool). But it is officially "Avengers Endgame". The next Avengers movie will probably have it's own title also.
