Contrary to popular belief, I'm also an MCU estimator. I just hate and despise the MCU Thor and his terrible movies, as well as the cinematic adaptation they concocted for some minor characters: in primis, Falcon and Hawkeye.
I'm a huge Iron Man fan (I also collect the action figures from the movies, mark by mark LOL) and I always loved "IRON MAN 2". To me it's a brilliant movie featuring a wonderful script, Downey Jr even more confortable as Tony Stark, terrific action scenes and the best solo superhero aerial battle ever put on a movie. The story-arc about the "new element" is just mindblowing and meaningful.
Yes, I still think that "Iron Man 3" did not deserve such a huge commercial success, it was truly overblown, but I must say that it's a very good movie anyway. I didn't like the constant and mishandled DECONSTRUCTIONISM of the "Iron Man" mythology, quite frankly. To me, the real THIRD chapter of the Iron Man saga will always be "The Avengers" (2012) which, still today, it's the best superhero team movie ever put on-screen; however, I always felt that Iron Man was the pivotal figure and the absolute lead on that.
So okay, guys, now you know what I think. Show some love and respect for "IRON MAN 2", this is the time!

I like it very much. One of my favourite MCU films, and possibly in my top three.
The villains are great. They’re also greater when together.

I agree, Iron Man 2 is one of the best of them, I loved the whole thing, especially Rourke and Rockwell as the villains and the subtle introduction of the Widow. Plus the Supernanny line.

Tonys personal arc in IM2 is genuinely great. This deleted scene shows Stark at his creative best - both acting wise from RDJ and also his Stark persona of a genius scientific mind. I can see why they deleted it because its pretty long but they shouldn't have

I haven’t seen it since it was in theaters, but I liked it at the time—definitely more than The Avengers.

I always liked it. Even the way it lags. It's one of the better ones to just have in the background on a rainy day.
A lot happened in it too, what with the creation of the new element. Although that was the second time (the first being The Legend of Korra) where a genius inventor parent told their child they're the greatest thing they ever created. It's stretched to its max as a trope. If I see it again it might throw up. Good trope, very limited lifespan.

Hard to beat actors like Sam Rockwell and Mickey Rourke.

I don't think it is, I asked a little while ago when there was an active a thread ranking the Marvel movies why so many had it ranked so low because it astonished me as I thought it one of the better ones. Apparently many thought the Widow was 'wasted,' they couldn't understand Rourke and it was 'just a set-up for other Marvel movies'--whatever that means.

It's as connected as any other film in the MCU, no more no less. I think it's a decent flick but a lesser entry in the MCU catalog. I like Rockwell as an actor but Hammer doesn't make for a compelling villain when you make him an idiot. Rourke was great for most of this film, until he became a minion for Hammer. I agree with the wasted Widow complaint. She had virtually no personality whatsoever. She's a favorite of mine in the comics so maybe I judge the her more harshly than others.

Word on the street is Mickey Rourke did some research into the role, picked up the accent and some Russian gangster mannerisms. Think he even visited a jail or did something to get in character. Marvel turned around and said for the love of God just play a villain.

I thought Rockwell was great as a sleazeoid and while a lot of the jokes were at his expense they made me laugh, he did a great job selling his ordnance and courting Vanko I thought. I wasn't expecting to see Widow at all so I thought of her as a bonus and most of the time she was an infiltration agent and thus 'playing' a different character, the perfect assistant who might...intrigue...Tony, but not so much she couldn't work with Pepper. I loved the interaction between Hammer and Vanko, especially the bird and the 'disagreement' over the drones.
To each their own though, it's just I found it odd so many had this one at or near the bottom.

Marvel turned around and said for the love of God just play a villain. It's too bad, that character really had potential. IM2 has some great character scenes (in particular, the film of Howard that Tony watches) and I actually enjoy the IM/War Machine team up at the end quite a bit. That said, it's still my least favorite IM film and in the lower tier of MCU films overall; not because it's a bad film but because many of the other films are that much better.

IM2 in my opinion has the best fight scenes in Phase 1. I still feel that Whiplash was the wrong villain to use in this film though. The Mandarin (the real one) would have been way better.

Almost everyone in this thread likes it. But at the time of it's release, it was widely derided. People DID NOT like it. That was the general consensus. I watched it 5 days ago. It's really not bad at all. I remember how cool it was when we saw the briefcase morph into his armor. At the time that was cool as fuck. The genius bad guy who can magically create a reactor like Tony's is a bit tired and eyerolling, but otherwise it's very enjoyable. Scarjo is insanely sexy in it. I liked it back then and I still liked it when I rewatched it like a month ago. Problem is it's still not quite as good as a lot of the other MCU movies.

That part was 100% touching and Howard's line was pure genius. It really strikes a chord inside you.
