Almost everyone in this thread likes it. But at the time of it's release, it was widely derided. People DID NOT like it. Yeah, it was massively successful (for the parameters of that "era") but it was panned by critics and fans. Well, time has been gentle to it anyway. I think a lot of that was because The Dark Knight had come out a mere two years earlier and was considered by many the new standard for comic book movies and while the initial Iron Man did well the second wasn't considered as good so IM2 suffered in comparison to both of them. As I recall IM2 came out right as the campaign to get The Dark Knight to the top of the IMDB rankings was peaking, and you know how some people like to argue that not only is what they like the best, anything comparable must suck like a blast furnace.

Yeah, it was an uncertain era. The criticism surrounding "X-Men Origins" (which was more comic book-ish than its predecessors) didn't help. Ironically, IM2 was vastly better than "Thor" (which was good anyway), "Thor: The Dark World" (so so) and "The Incredible Hulk" (mediocre), but these three were better received in terms of fan-response. And, of course, "Iron Man 2" is a million light years ahead of the two Ant-Man movies or Ragnarok.

And, of course, "Iron Man 2" is a million light years ahead of the two Ant-Man movies or Ragnarok. I really liked the first Ant Man, mainly because his powers aren't just for slugfests but can be very useful with some imagination which they employed well I thought and made an entertaining film with offbeat supporting characters. The second one I remember little more than the guy who became Black Goliath was in it, I didn't hate it, but thought the villainess was more intriguing than either of the Wasps which is kinda sad.
Thor Ragnarok is one where I had to keep telling myself The Grandmaster is an Elder of the Universe and could develop technology to immobilize Thor and then it worked fine and I really thought most the jokes hilarious, though I realize it's not going to be to everyone's taste. I've never been much of a Hulk fan but thought his movie better than I expected (a low bar admittedly) and like that Thor kicked his ass in Ragnarok. I also like that Loki tried to betray Thor but was outsmarted and did eventually come to the aid of the Asgardians like he did sometimes in the myths and comics (Odin: 'For Asgard!'' Thor: 'For Midgard!' Loki: 'For Myself!') I really liked the nod to Skurge holding the Gjaller-something bridge with the machine guns too, one of my favorite sequences in all of comics.
