when given the choice between small, medium, and large (and sometimes extra large) and there's not much of a price difference among them?

Medium. I often find that the size of the cup is much larger than what I expect.

Rarely buy any, but the smallest and refill it (though typically with ice water)

Small, and nothing more than that.

I'm assuming you're talking about at a theater? I don't go to theaters anymore, but when I buy soft drinks at the store I like to buy the 12 packs of 12 oz cans.

I never buy it by the cup, if that's what you were referring to. I like to buy the 20 oz. plastic bottles of Coke Vanilla or Coke Cherry. I don't drink very much at one time - I just pour a few ounces for a quick drink, then re-cap the bottle. I can usually make a 20 oz. bottle last a couple of days. If you keep them sealed and in the refrigerator, they don't go flat in that time.

...I do not drink sugared drinks...water is fine for me, or as an alternative, unsweetened iced tea...

I order a Large which is an American medium, but I will ask for NO ice as you get more soda and it's cold anyway.

Medium. I often find that the size of the cup is much larger than what I expect. This. It doesn't take me long to get filled up on drinking soda, and I find medium is fine for me.

none. hate fountain. They don't list the ingredients.
I never know what beverage may have artificial sweeteners in it these days. I mean Mountain dew just released "DEWsa" - a red, white blue combination of Code Red, White Out and Voltage
and it's not a true combination of the 3. It doesn't have the brominated vegetable oil ingredient and it has artifical sweetners acesulfame potassium and sucralose in it. ugh

The only size drinks I order are single or double, depending on how drunk I want to get.

Medium. My bladder isn't built for the large.

I usually opt for the smallest size and then just refill it if I need to.
Most of the time, though, I'm either buying a 20oz bottle, or a combo meal where the size is already chosen for me. My first reply really only applies to Five Guys as it tends to be the only place I go these days where I have a choice. I like to play with the Freestyle machines and will do one flavor with my meal and ~ half a cup of a different flavor for the road, if I still have room.
