Thank God fans can now see the best Dracula movie in color again after the director went insane and ruined this movie on Laserdisc, DVD, and Blu ray.

I like the Music but as far as I myself am concerned, I think that the Top 2 Best Dracula Movies are the 1931 Bela Lugosi "DRACULA" and "BRAM STOKER's DRACULA".

So is that why I found this movie to be so dull and lifeless. Granted one could say lifelessness was a stylistic choice considering it's about a vampire, but in this case I think not.

Yes, that's why. Dracula 1979 had vibrant color like a Hammer horror movie but the idiot director changed it to nearly black and white 20 years later. He can go to hell! Luckily fans can now fix what has been broken.

I liked the locations and the cape flying off at the end.
I remember kites like that. Seemed like a bigger hobby in the 70s along with bottle rockets.

As much as I disagree with a studio having control over a film, in this case id unfortunately have to hope they do. But the director could just easily buy the rights for the movie.

who cares. It's a dog of a movie - 'though not as bad as dracula's dog. Plods along with a pathetic over romanticized Dracula, and a hammy embarrassing performance from Laurence Olivier as Van Helsing . Pretty period sets just aren't enough.

This is my review and thumbnails from the current Blu-ray version. I saw this in the theater and although I don't vividly remember the look of it, I would rather see the original version. The director claimed he couldn't get the desaturated film stock he wanted at the time, and the home video versions are what he wanted all along. Dracula (1979)

Okay, I watched the full color restored version and I have to say, anybody watching DVDs or Blurays of this movie are not seeing Dracula 1979 at all. When you darken a movie that was lit for color you literally don't fully see the expressions the actors are making, so performances suffer greatly and fall flat. The restored color is so rich, and the settings are so visually striking, I found my eyes darting around each scene to take in every detail. This movie was intended to be a visual feast for the eyes and what director John Badham has done to this movie is simply "criminal." He has killed his own movie and this color restoration puts the "life" back into it.

I love the scene with the undead Mina coming after Van Helsing underground. Easily the creepiest part of the movie.
