people complain about older movies being dated because they show the fashion or hair styles of the time, the technology of the time, the music of the time etc. Am I the only one that doesn't only not mind this but actually kind of likes it? It's like the movie is a time capsule. A look into a specific time and it is fascinating to me.

Nope. I rather enjoy seeing the technology of yesteryear...especially when it matches what I grew up with. EG, rotary dial phones, transistor radios, turn tables, etc. I even like the old sci fi that project the future that has already passed without some of the technology realized, EG 2001 and 2010.

"Dated" is a stupid fucking term used by millennials who have no concept that people actually existed before they did.

I don't care how "dated" a movie looks. I can easily watch movies made in any era.

I do have issues with some things that are overtly stereotypical or offensive when they weren’t viewed that way at the time.

I don't get the term dated either. I don't care when the film was made. I just rate it on how much i enjoyed it
Edit: To elaborate on that, if i don't like a 70's film these days i probably would have rated it the same in the 70's

Wherever I see the word "dated" applied to movies, I think about how "dated" today's movies will be in the not too distant future. If anything is going to "date" very quickly, it is going to be the technology with with the films are made (e.g. CGI) as well as what is displayed on screen (e.g. cell phones). All of these things are changing so fast that in, say, 30 years, moviegoers will be able to place ("date") a film from the second decade of the century to within a few years. I wish I could be present to see the reaction the first time an Avatar or Avengers movie is pronounced "dated."
And yes, the "dated" films from the '40s, '50s, and '60s will continue to be seen and enjoyed for their dialog heavy, character driven, well written stories they tell- even, maybe because of, the black and white cinematography.

On some movies, that term definetly applies. The 90s was when Hollywood really started ramping up CGI in their movies but the technology was still kind of new, and now a lot of them definetly look what we would call "dated" (The Phantom Menace comes to mind)

Most of my favourite films are old ones, about half of them are older than me, which is pretty ancient. So it doesn't bother me.

It all depends on the movie itself. For instance, if Lethal Weapon didn't have its awful vintage 80s soundtrack it'd probably be a pretty good movie.
When it comes to effects, though, I love old cheesy effects. I just watched The Dark Crystal for the first time and the opening and closing shots of that movie are so obviously miniatures, but they're beautiful and perfectly corny.

But there are some movies that were made to resonate specifically with the times. Those slapstick wife swapping movies of the 60's just don't work now.

no I don't mind about any of the stuff you mentioned being dated the only thing I can agree with is if the humor is dated, like if it has a lot of Pop culture references that aren't really relevant today that's where it would probably effect my viewing experience.

Heck if someone calls a movie made from before the 1990's "dated" i'm usually first in line to watch it. A good movie transcends "time" in my opinion. Most of the films I watch nowadays are from the 1930's to 1970's.
