I HATED so many things about it......the styles, the fashions, the oil crisis, Nixon, the war, the riots.....you name it. But in the intervening years, I've SO come to appreciate the many good things about it.....like the music, the movies, and a surprising number of other things (I thought) I was glad to see finally leaving, forever: www.thepeoplehistory.com/1970s.htmlSAVE FERRIS

I was just a little kid but I recall being sent to buy cigarettes with a $2 bill and using the change to buy candy. No seatbelts were ever worn in the car. I even remember my father cutting them out of one car, he found them annoying. Kids rode bikes all day and got up to all sorts of things. I remember throwing glass pop bottles out the car window and listening to the smash. No one recycled and no one even thought about such things. The clothes were beyond loud and so were the haircuts, one look at my school photos would back up this statement. People liked to get DOWN!

That last black and white one is hilarious. Look at the way the little dude is looking at the big hairy dude... Golly, there are some attractive fellas here! Though Robin Gibbs' hairdo might look better on Jaclyn Smith.

OH and ALL banking was done IN THE BANK. ATMs didn't come about until very late 1970s in some areas and not til late 1980s in others. If I recall correctly you could only do cash transactions, withdrawal or deposit, not much else. Maybe check your account balance. I think some banks had limited Saturday hours but only for some transactions and of course everything was closed on Sundays except family restaurants some convenience stores maybe movie theaters were open. I forget if gas stations had any Sunday hours. Due to "blue laws" many businesses weren't open on Sundays or if they were it was a very short time like the US Post Office on Saturdays now.
