Thoughts!
I got goosebumps when I saw the full trailer the other day.
Rated 'R' in the US, which won't exactly help the box office. Likely M in Australia and NZ, which isn't restrictive to any age, unless there is strong drug content in it and it will get age restrictive ratings, but I'd say at the lower end of the scale.

Yeah I am looking forward to it yes I haven't heard much buzz and those I have asked, have seen pretty much nonchalant. One comment I got yesterday was it doesn't look as good as Bohemian Rhapsody. Then again, I don't think that BR was generating a lot of fanfare and excitement until it actually hit the screens. Word of mouth is what prevailed in this instance.
Nora, I was driving by a rural area yesterday and came across a sign out the front of someone's driveway; Alpaca Poo $3.00 a bag. I cracked up and gave you a thought immediately..... Not that I associate the poo part with you....

Straight to the point. May I ask what aspects of it look unappealing to you?

I doubt too many kids under 17 give a hoot about Sir Elton, so I can't see its box office being affected much by an R rating.

The older generations would have been the main target demographic for Bohemian Rhapsody, same as this one. I wonder then, why it was felt necessary to clean up Mercury's story with a PG13?

We will be going to see it when it comes out at movie theatres here but I am kinda surprised they chose to go with the name 'Rocketman' instead of another song title like 'Candle In the Wind' 'cause there are bound to be some young people confusing it for the name of a superhero movie but I think it could be good and with all these movies about singers coming out I hope we get a Paul McCartney movie about his time in the Beatles, Wings and his solo career along with movies of Pat Benatar and Heart. We have more Australian ones coming up being developed by Channel 7 and I have heard John Farnham and Chrissy Amphlett are two of them. Did you see the Olivia Newton John movie with Delta Goodrem?

The "R" rating is necessary, I think. The budget is only $40 million, if I hear any early box office projections that are under that number, I will be disappointed.

Looks interesting; I have to agree with those who're saying that the star isn't much of a singer and might have been better dubbed, but I'd definitely go to see this.

Well, from what I have seen, Elton has endorsed him. I have only seen clips though and not full renditions. Doing his own singing, will seem more natural as well. Malek was dubbed in Bohemian Rhapsody, only hitting a few of his own notes.

Well see there's the thing...younger generations DO still get into Queen for whatever reason, I never personally got them even though I was in middle and high school in the late 70s and was in that generation who grew up with them. Not sure if it's the Wayne's World effect or what, but they do seem to have a broader appeal among subsequent generations than Elton does. So I'd imagine that played into a sanitized, PG13 Freddie biopic.

So it might be that the singing will be well-managed enough so as not to really distract overall.

We will have to wait and see, but it looks like it is full of energy and creativity and even Ken Russellish in parts.
