Star Wars and Avatar movies will alternate throughout the 2020s.

I thought "The Lion King" remake would be the highest grossing film this year, but trying to surpass Endgame seems like a very jaunting task. The next goalpost is above a $350 million opening weekend. That's fucking crazy, man. That’s where buying up theater seats come in .

That's because Endgame didn't charge 5 extra dollars for 3D glasses. But who cares anyway. wat He is suggesting that the only reason Avatar made as much money as it did is because you had to pay 3 extra dollars for the 3D glasses.

I figured but it's so odd considering ticket prices are higher than 10 years ago & EndGame is in 3D which means a surcharge, and also in Imax which is a 20+ dollar ticket.

I don't remember exactly, but weren't all of the Avatar showings 3-D? Only some of the showing of Endgame are in 3-D. I mean it wasn't sold as a 3-D event. Only one of the 4 screens showing Endgame was 3-D at my cinema.

Cameron was just promoting the 3D only, just like Jackson promoted the HFR Hobbit movies and Endgame is heavily promoting IMAX. Most of the showings of Endgame in my town were 3D too although they are the first to go after the first week or two. Regardless, if Endgame beats Avatar box office, it doesn't mean more people saw it which is what should measure a movie's popularity

Thanks. I wasn;t really confused, I just thought he was talking crazy. No matter how it;s sliced it's more expensive to go to the movies now. I'm probably paying more for a 2d ticket now than I paid for a 3d ticket in 09.

I don't think nostromo was taking all of that into account, but he would have a point in Avatar sort of cheating it's way to the top in 2009.

$111m away... I think it can get there if it stays around theatrically until Nov-Dec.
