Maybe I missed something but didn't Jaime ring the bells? - you saw him heading towards the bell tower and then after they rang it cut to him escaping to the beach. Plus Tyrion wanted him to convince Cersei to do it. That is what I thought as well but to be fair it is still a mystery because no one was shown doing so. I checked the topic on various forums and there are mixed replies. He did not. He was heading there but got pushed back by the crowd. Basically, Tyrion's plan had already failed as he wanted the bells rung as soon as possible. Jaime abandoned that to go rescue Cersei by entering Red Keep the back way.

That’s what all pieces of shit do. We see the same thing all the time in court: Suspects who will murder other people without even thinking about it, without an ounce of empathy, then suddenly they’re crying when it’s their life on the line, when they’re facing the prospect of life in prison. Same deal with mobsters: They don’t care when they’re squeezing people, destroying families and destroying livelihoods, but the minute one of them has to go to prison, the wives and kids wail like the most terrible thing in the world happened. I really like the job they did with Cersei all through the episode. Even the mountain didn't listen to her by the end. She was shown as a person who turned Yellow (as was the term used in classic Hollywood movies for cowards). A very realistic end for a cheap human being.
So many people on social media whined about Cersei's death, just like they whined about everything else.
But in real life, people die miserable, pointless and undramatic deaths all the time. It was fitting for Cersei to die in the bowels of the Red Keep, begging for her life, weeping and getting crushed like an insect. We didn't need some dramatic scene of Grey Worm cutting her down or Daenerys feeding her to Drogon.
I really don't get why people have a problem with these last few episodes. Are they watching the same show the rest of us are? As Ramsay said, "If you think this has a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention."
