Not one of my favorites, but his scores for James Bond, Dances with Wolves and Hammett are very good.

Actually, it was Monty Norman who created the "James Bond Theme". Anyway, I love his scores for the James Bond films.

John Barry did the fantastic score for "Raise The Titanic" (1980)... "Memories of the Titanic" "Deep Quest Saved (Raise the Titanic)"

Well, the Oscar jury awarded him five awards over the years.
Born Free 1966, both the score and the song
The Lion in Winter 1968
Out of Africa 1985
Dances with Wolves 1990

Am I correct that Norman came up with the guitar dududdudududud sound that plays during the gun barrel sequence but everything else is Barry? I assume this was Barry's assertion never wavered and given his talent and filmography compared to Norman, I have to side with his version of events. Norman appears to have had a very sympathetic judge.

Body Heat...fit the movie perfectly.
King Kong...crappy movie, but a beautiful score that was much better than it deserved.

Barry? He CAME UP with the James Bond theme. Absolutely! 100%! He's fucking brilliant! Maybe even better than Williams! Out of Africa Bond movies Dances with Wolves Somewhere in Time Midnight Cowboy And even bad movies that were made better by his musical score: The Black Hole Indecent Proposal King Kong 1976
I was once in the same room with him, a few years before he passed. RIP

I have always loved how his sci-fi themes from the Bond movies, could sway from being chilling and unsettling, then straigth to haunting and truly majestic pieces.
While most likely not among the better of the Roger Moore 007 releases, the score still stands among my favorites. I think Barry did one last, with Living Daylights, but out of most of the 007 music he wrote, the most John Barry/Bond moment (or so I believe) arrives about 2 minutes into the title cut of A View to a Kill (1985). Sadly, this aboslute fantastic version (gives me the goosebumps), does not excist on my CD soundtrack (the remastered 2003 version).
