Someone pointed out on Twitter that Varys was trying to get the little girl to poison Dany. Kinda a lame attempt given his level of experience, and it didn't seem like he was trying very hard. Also, the scene was so vague I think most people didn't pick up on it, so shame on the writers.

Don't know about twitter guy but I had somewhat the same uncomfortable feeling when I watched that opening scene. But so many things happened later that I didn't check back.

sort of felt out of character for him basically. It was effed up, but it was a good way to go on this show. Its a memorable death. And I don't see how its out of character, other than that he got caught... finally. It was always going to end for him either at some rulers side, or killed by being out-schemed. Cool character overall.

That was the best part of the show.
It made complete sense.

So did Dany know Varys was trying to poison her? Or did she execute him only because he was pushing for Jon to take the Iron Throne.

Varys’ numerous abilities were underutilized in the show though.

Yeah, I know it was treason, but I'm asking if she knew about the poison plot as well. i don’t think she knew it was Varys until Tyrion told her.

So did Dany know Varys was trying to poison her? Or did she execute him only because he was pushing for Jon to take the Iron Throne. I took it as Tyrion realizing what Varys had said to him last episode as being tantamount to treason and when he saw Varys imploring Jon when he arrived he knew Varys had decided to act on his words.

What bothers me is Tyrion takes action then commits treason as well like really.

What bothers me is Tyrion takes action then commits treason as well like really. His plan was to get the city to surrender to Daenerys, he wasn't actually trying to betray her like Varys was. He had hopes she would understand and truly believed it was in Daenerys' best interests. Varys was actively working against Daenerys.

What bothers me is Tyrion takes action then commits treason as well like really. He’s willing to die for it and it has no real effect on Dany’s rule. Varys was looking to end Dany. Granted Tyrion should totally die for it but I imagine his excuse is more valid in his mind.

Varys was pretty desperate. He's always had time before. He knew if Dany destroyed KL, it would be too late to have a reason to replace her just like Cersei couldn't be removed either.
First try to get a partner in Tyrion, then poison her to force Jon's hand who would be the next obvious choice, then go straight to Jon which was a suicide move by itself, all built around telling the kingdom why Jon has the greater claim.
