i have read, studied and taught scripture for many years. name a passage or question we can discuss
Peter 2:18: Slaves should obey even their cruel masters.
Ephesians 5:22: Women should be obedient to their husbands.
Timothy 2:12: Women must be silent.
Numbers 5:12-28: Women are property.
Ephesians 5:22-23: Rape victims are to be stoned.
* any understanding of scripture must proceed from the context of who it was written to, when and why specifically.
comparing scripture with scripture.* 1 Pet 2:18,19 - slavery had existed for thousands of years among warring nations.
it existed long after this was written. God is telling slaves to -18 "accept the authority of your masters with all deference"
-19 "it is a credit to you if...you endure while suffering unjustly". God knew their anguish and he sought to prevent them
from suffering even more by defying cruel and evil people to no avail. {of course God never wanted for there to be slavery.
or the cruelty and suffering and wars that resulted from the battles against oppression and tyranny justly fought}
God rescued his people from the cruelty of the egyptians who had enslaved them for centuries. He then showed later
how Jesus suffered unjustly when He was accused, (though He was sinless), beaten and murdered by evil men.
He gave Himself as a sacrifice for the sins of all. He will be back to punish all the evils of men for all time.
[Acts 2:37,38 to be saved - Peter told the people on the day of Pentecost they had murdered the sinless Son of God.
they said "bretheren, what shall we do ? And Peter said to them" repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of
Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit".]
1 Tim 2:12- the church was being disrupted by false teachings and practices from Idolatry. from 2:10-14 " as befits women
making a claim to godliness. Let a woman quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. I do not allow a
woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. For it was Adam who was first created,
and then Eve. And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being quite deceived, fell into transgression".
God Made this universe. His Rules - we just live in this world for a little while. because of Eve's sin in Gen 3 sin entered
the world. because of this God cursed the serpent who had deceived them. Eve was told Gen 3:16 - "your desire shall be for
your husband, and he shall rule over you".
Eph 5:22 from 21- be subject to one another in the fear of Christ. Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord.
For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ is also head of the church,...24-But as the church is subject to Christ, so also
the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything. 28- "So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies.
He who loves his own wife loves himself". only a misapplication or twisting of scripture would cause anyone to mistreat
anyone. a husband who truly loves his wife will thank God every day for the blessing of a godly woman as a gift from God.
when we submit ourselves to each other in love, we find our greatest joys
{ I shall address the last two of your passages from the old testament separately, as i need the exact passage for the last one.
that is not Ephesians }
