Hypothetical in the three major NA sports...
1. Game 7 of the World Series. Bottom 9th, bases loaded, two outs, team down by one.
2. NFL. Super Bowl, three seconds left, team down by two. You are kicking a 40 yard FG, outside.
3. NBA. Game 7 Finals. Three seconds, team down by one, you are shooting a one on one.
I'd say the NBA. In #1 you are dealing with a sport where a batter fails 7 out of 10 times and is a star. And you are dealing with a possibly superior athlete, the opposing closer. In #2, you are dealing with outside forces, pressure from the defense trying to block it, wind, footing. With a FT, it's just you, the ball and the net. You miss, it's 100% your fuckup. That would have to be in your mind. Maybe it's because I can make a FT and there's no way in creation I could do the other two.

The NBA scenario is the only one where you gave us two chances and an option to tie. I'd say if you hit one of those, which you almost definitely would, you're ok. And after you hit the first the pressure is off a bit for the second.
The 40 field goal is the toughest to me. You have the rest of the team there, but almost every time it's just down to the kicker. You take for granted that your team is going to block, snap, and hold properly because they do so the vast majority of the time. It's really down to one guy who gets made fun of all the time anyway and isn't treated like a real member of the team until a few moments a season when all the pressure in the world is on him. That opportunity is extremely rare and they're always blamed if it doesnt go the right way.

What about being the opposing pitcher in this situation?

The weight of "Boy if I fuck this up...". If you a kicker and the snap goes 25 feet over the holders head, that's not on you. If you get struck out by a Mariano Rivera-esque closer, well, who can blame you. Throw up an air ball on the front end of the one on one, you're on YouTube forever under the title "Biggest Choke Ever!!!!!". Like you see with Scott Norwood. And I've seen that crap with Scott. Ten Biggest Chokes in Sports History and Norwood will be there. A 46 yard FG, outside in the biggest game ever is no chip shot.

What about being the opposing pitcher in this situation? Yeah, you can be the goat (not GOAT) if you throw the ball. Ralph Branca, Ralph Terry, Byung-hyun Kim etc. But how bad did Branca fuck up really? He didn't throw it underhanded.

FT for mine. It's all on you. No excuses. Can't blame the wind, team mates ir opponents. All comes down to whether you can execute when it counts.

What if there was something in your eye or a woman in the fifth row pulled up her shirt? Does the woman look more like Scarlett Johansson or David Johansen? What if that woman is your wife, and she has help lifting the shirt? It would be distracting to know your marriage was disintegrating on live television.

NHL Stanley Cup Final, game 7 overtime, goalie on a penalty kill.
Good luck.
