Why angry fanboys shouldn't be taken seriously

[posted this originally on the Game of Thrones board, but since I compared the angry GoT fanboys to the angry SW fanboys, I think I'll post it here as well.]

Benioff & Weiss: make seven seasons that the fanboys liked.
Also Benioff & Weiss: make one season that the fanboys find "divisive".
Fanboys: "Ohmagurd this is the worst show over! REEEEEE!!! I'm throwing out all the past seasons of Game of Thrones that I own! REEEEEEEEE!!!! I'll boycott anything else that Benioff and Weiss make in the future! REEEEEEEEE!!!!!"

A similar thing happened with the Star Wars fandom...

Disney/Lucasfilm: Make two SW movies that are generally well-received (even if TFA receives some criticism for being a rehash of A New Hope).
Rian Johnson: makes three well-received independent movies.
Disney/Lucasfilm & Rian Johnson: release a SW movie that many fanboys don't like.
Fanboys: "Ohmagurd, Star Wars is dead! REEEEEEEEE!!!! Lucasfilm hates the fans! REEEEEEEEE!!!!!! I'll never watch any movie Rian Johnson ever directs again! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!"

In short, these aren't rational people.
