I’m betting no. He was hired two years ago, and there hasn’t been one bit of news about the damn thing.

I'm not denying WB is acting strange about it but I think that goes w/o saying about their entire DC slate. I'm still thinking it will be made. People still like the character.

His merchandise sales are twice as much as Spider-Man; the next bestselling comics character. In a string of poorly received movies, he remains one of the more popular characters. I get it with the broken record. You're Wayned out. No hard feelings.

No I don’t. Which, as I’ve said a million times, makes me very sad.

I get it with the broken record. You're Wayned out. No hard feelings. From what I can see the only thing suggesting that Batman is more popular than Spidey is a 2016 article about how online mech sales including comics put Batman as making up 27% of the sales to Spidey's 13.5ish %, which is from Jan 2015 to that oint in time, but Spidey grossed $1.3b in merch and comic sales ia few years back, like 2014 maybe, compared to Batman's just under $500m, which given then in 2017 the combined sales of Batman & Wonder Woman merch was said to be $1b also, seems that Batman isn't more popular so much as he's more popular via a single method of purchasing merch.
Which fits Spidey and Batman are supposedly close in terms of domestic US fandom but Spidey's global appeal matches his domestic appeal, Batman's doesn't, he's about as popular as Superman internationally, it's just he's unusually way more popular domestically.
And it makes sense as DC pumps out way more Batman stuff than any other character, it's a self fulfilling prophecy, they mostly make Batman stuff because Batman stuff sells the most, but Batman stuff only sells the most because Batman stuff is the majority of what they make.

This article appears to be what he was referring to.

Since it won't be Batfleck - I can't say I really care anymore. And the more I hear about where they've ended up going with it, the less inclined I am to watch it at all. (I say this as a huge, lifelong Batman fan)

Here's the latest development from Matt Reeves via Twitter:
I'm still holding out that he will make his Batman film. I really want to see his take on the character.

That tweet isn’t exactly up to date. Well, Robert Pattinson has just been cast as Batman, and insiders have told Variety that "filming could start in late 2019 or early 2020." Either way, it looks like the film is making progress.

I'll say yes in light of the casting talk. Does seem weird that they've moved ahead on so many other projects like SS2, BoP, and Joker while this has just sat, though.

Which in of itself, yeah okay...

It would be really crazy if the movie doesn’t get to finish filming now because of the current situation.

At this point, if the movie doesn’t get made, it’ll be Matt Reeves’ fault. What was he doing for the past three years? The movie could’ve finished filming before any of this went down. Why did WB even hire him if it takes him three years to write a screenplay?

Why did WB even hire him if it takes him three years to write a screenplay? Good points. Between this and Derrickson leaving Dr. Strange 2, I thought studios gave these guys a deadline to meet or something? Not a release date but like "hey start filming by this point or don't waste our time."

Not a release date but like "hey start filming by this point or don't waste our time." I guess WB thought that since the movie is supposed to be released in the Summer of 2021, they could give Matt Reeves as much time as he supposedly needed. Granted, they obviously had no way of knowing that there would be a global pandemic at this time, but that still doesn’t explain why it took Matt Reeves so long to get the cameras rolling in the first place. He was hired in February 2017, and it took until 2019 for there to be anything resembling concrete news for the movie.
