Being the first Marvel movie that had a female lead?
It shows that back then they just made movies, it wasn't a thing to be an sjw.

But the movie does blow either way.

It wasn't a Marvel movie. Also, it's terrible so let's all pretend it never happened.

Either way man they didn't make a big deal about her being the first female Mar el character movie. Granted it was before the rise of the internet before people could make big deals about something.

Yeah that was before studios figured out there was an untapped market for action movies. Don't mistake the intentions of the studios with those of the individual filmmakers. It's a cash grab.

Blade (1998) doesn't get the credit it deserves.
I feel that there is something ironic about that.

Probably because it was a spinoff to a terrible movie

Probably the same reason Supergirl doesn't get credit as the first DC movie with a female lead. Or Steel doesn't get credit as the first (mainstream?) superhero movie with a black lead.
A: those movies suck and are best forgotten. Plus, all three being spinoff characters of white male leads probably undercut their empowerment angle.
Also, "the back then people just made movies" argument can apply to both sides. Were people complaining about forced diversity when they stuck Lando in Empire?

Who is the white male character that Steel is a spin-off of? I have never seen Steel. Forced diversity only applies when the diversity feels forced. Regarding Lando in Empire. There are very few movies where the diversity feels forced.
