The quirky little Scottish village in Local Hero - I feel like I am there every time I watch that wonderful film.
Even though it was shot in its entirety at Pinewood, Black Narcissus captivates me and transports me to its remote, haunting Himalayan setting.

And I agree with you about LOCAL HERO. Love the film and the location. For some reason (maybe because it's all sets) I don't feel the same about BLACK NARCISSUS. Thanks spiderwort - it's good to be here, and GREAT to see some familiar names kicking around this place...

Films of place where the location is like a character in the film, a character that drives action, makes decisions, changes story arcs....
The Italian locations in Room With A View take such a role.

The time-travel romance SOMEWHERE IN TIME is soapy and silly but I still like it. The majority of the movie is filmed at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan. It has to be one of the most spectacularly beautiful hotels that I've ever seen and it's as much a character in that film as the actors are. I like to think that I'll travel there one day. You never know. I am so happy to see you mention "Somewhere in Time." Odds are I will never get to Mackinac Island, but I did take a day trip down to Richard Matheson's inspiration, the Hotel del Coronado. Had lunch and visited their Hall of History. When I took the tour of Warner Bros. Studio, they let us off of the tram to wander up Kings Row to look at the street of homes built for that film, which is right next to the town square used in "The Music Man." So many of the places I loved in films were right on the Warner lot. If I could pick any property to own, after seeing the TV movie about actress Thelma Todd, I would love to own what was her cafe in Pacific Palasades. It was up for sale a few years ag but there weren't any takers at the $8 million they were asking for it. It belongs to the Catholic Chirch, who use it for film production.
