Definitely interesting choice. For those already complaining, think back to when Michael Keaton was first announced to play Batman and how well that actually worked out.

He's a very good actor. I don't see him as "The Twilight Guy," but I don't see him as Batman at all. He still looks like he could play Robin. Plus his voice is just not deep or intimidating enough. I'll give it a chance, but I don't see this going well. He's just a bit too young. Or young-looking.

The article from Colliders is factually wrong - " At 32 years old, Pattinson becomes the youngest actor ever cast as Batman on the big screen."

I hear ya, he just doesn't have that sort of commanding presence I'd like to see under the cowl. Make no mistake, I'm rooting for him if he gets the green light. If I were walking down a dark alley at 2am and Christian Bale (in his Batman Begins physique) stopped me, I'd crap my pants. If Michael Keaton did, I would too, but for other reasons. I doubted Ben Affleck in the role, but I'd crap my pants if I saw his Batman as well. I just don't get that from Robert Pattinson. I didn't get it from Clooney or Kilmer either. Seems a strange choice, but like I said, I'm rooting for him. I like Pattinson as an actor and I like the character of Batman. I want this to be good. I'm just kinda "hope you know what you're doing doc" on the whole thing.

How many Batmans do we need?

His acting isnt an issue. He looks snakey and untrustworthy is what the issue is. He looks more like a Batman villain than Batman himself. But who knows, maybe he'll get braces and stop hitting the meth pipe for awhile and look the part.

So...when are they planning to cast an American as Sherlock Holmes? Oh that's right, never. Dude...

So...can we imagine Pattinson as Tarzan?

That's an interesting thought. I'm not a huge comic buff, but I know there have been several iterations of the Batman character. I always preferred the slimmer, less cartoonishly muscular version (which is why I liked Michael Keaton and Bale's slimmer version of the character in the last of his films). Pattinson looks the part for that, but as I said above, so much of Batman is in the voice, and I just don't hear a scary voice coming out of him. I was born in '79, so I'm a little young for the Tarzan films, but they were a favorite of my father and I think I saw just about every one of them while rolling his cigarettes for him (Carpal Tunnel from working with his hands most of his life). I think Pattinson could pull off Tarzan. I'd quite like to see it actually. My only issue with him is his voice. It's just too high for Batman. Nothing wrong with having a higher voice at all. The world needs tenors. Something that took me out of "The Dark Knight Rises" was Joseph Gordon-Levitt deliberately trying to speak at the bottom of his voice. He's another guy I really like as an actor, but his attempt at a deep voice was just strange. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was like a child impersonating an adult, but it kind of was. That's what I fear would come out of a Pattinson Batman. Tarzan however, doesn't speak as much. Pattinson plays introverts quite well, and Tarzan kind of is one in some respects...the whole lack of human interaction thing. I'd definitely buy a ticket to a Tarzan movie starring Pattinson.

I'm still surprised by this. However, I think that Robert Pattinson is a decent actor and he might be able to pull this off.

That's an interesting thought. It also works with James Bond.
Pierce Brosnan was not really a rough fighter type like Sean Connery so Famke Janssen might have been a possible threat to him-but it would have been impossible for Connery to be threatened in any way by her. Ditto for Roger Moore and George Lazenby. That's because biologically speaking, they are stronger male types by default. Brosnan was kind of the soft romantic lead type.
And these days Hollywood really loves the beta.
