As in who you believe are making the best movies currently. And what is your favorite movie by that director?
Bored. Not much activity going on around here.

Paul Thomas Anderson - There Will Be Blood or Boogie Nights Martin Scorsese - Goodfellas Christopher Nolan - Memento Woody Allen - Annie Hall David Fincher - The Social Network Sorry I didn't specify earlier. I modified the question to "who do you believe are making the best movies currently", rather than what was basically who are your 5 favorite living directors.

Love Yorgos Lanthimos so far. I nearly put him in place of Woody Allen. The Killing of a Sacred Deer is my favorite of his as well.

David Fincher hasn't made a film since Gone Girl (and that came out in freaking 2014!) and it doesn't look like he has anything in the works other than his Netflix show Mindhunter (sigh) . So I won't include him this time around .
Here are my top 5 working directors at the moment... 1. Nolan (the king right now . Every single one of his films are an event) (fav film by him is The Dark Knight) 2. Villeneuve (he kinda came out of no where & I like every film he's made this decade esp Blade Runner 2049 ) 3. Scorsese (he's still got it after all these years) (fav film by him is Goodfellas) 4. Refn (he is so different from all these Hollywood directors . And Drive remains my fav film of the decade so far) 5. Aronofsky (he may be a pretentious asshat but I always end up thinking about his films long after watching them. That means something ) (fav film by him is The Wrestler)

He had to practically parody himself last time around. Hopefully he's waiting around for that perfect screenplay.

And hopefully he has another great project to direct cause he is hands down my favorite director of all time.

He's one of those directors that almost seem like film gave birth to them.

I loved Strve McQueen until I saw that movie. His directing was uninspired to say the least.
