I was watching The Avengers (2012) and I was confused as to why Thanos would give Loki the Scepter which already had the mind stone?
Wouldn't he want to keep that on him given he already has one Infinity Stone?

And he probably knew the time stone was on earth also, so risk 1 stone to collect 2 more on top of that, also Thanos may have known about the Ether which was accessible via a portal on earth so conquering it gives him access to 4 of the stones, only he didn't tell Loki that the Tesseract or the sceptre contained Infinity stones to keep Loki's possible betrayal at a minimum.
