Season 4. Kept me on the edge of my seat all season and each episode had at least one amazing moment. It was also the first one I watched as it premiered.
3 is also up there for having some amazing pairings (some of which carried over into S4) like Arya/The Hound and Brienne/Jaime, while going out with a huge bang.

Season 4. It helps that it's based on the last half of GRR Martin's best book. But looking back it has so many great scenes:
Arya & Hound in the inn against the Lannister soldiers. Joffrey's death Jon Snow vs Karl Tanner Tyrion's trial Roose Bolton's Mufasa moment Littlefinger killing Lysa Arryn Oberyn vs the Mountain Battle at the Wall Brienne vs the Hound Tyrion killing Tywin

I think 6. It’s the most consistently entertaining and the final two episodes are two of the best imo.

Season 2 had the most engaging character building. I picked a side in Season 1. I don't think I loved any of the characters yet. I had favourites and sympathies, but there was not as strong an identification to them as was to come through S2. By the middle of S2, the Red Keep was my home and it was under siege (bloody lemon cakes ). That story had become personal.

Season 4 stands head and shoulders above the other seasons for me. Might even be my favorite season of any tv show I've ever seen.

However, my single favorite episode is Hardhome. WOW!

Season 1. It’s the best paced, best scripted. With very little wasted moments. No coincidence that it’s also the closest season to the book.

I couldn't help it. It's important to note that the books have their issues too. It isn't all gold. I actually do like show-only moments like Arya/Tywin, The Hound vs. Brienne (Brienne's story is far more interesting in the show because stuff actually happens!), the character of Ros, and Joffrey actually sharing a moment with Jaime (they never "meet" within the books) before the wedding.

I couldn't disagree more. Especially about Brienne. Her storyline in the show post season 3 is a travesty. Do the books have flaws? Sure. But about 1000 metric tons less than the show. So I'm not sure why "it's important to note that," especially to someone like me, who knows them as well as anyone.

So I'm not sure why "it's important to note that," especially to someone like me, who knows them as well as anyone. In the books, Brienne wanders aimlessly from place to place meeting forgettable characters, making the same statement repeatedly, and failing chapter after chapter.... She never meets the Stark girls. She doesn't accomplish anything outside of getting Jaime to come with her towards Stoneheart. It just drags chapter after chapter. Her story starts to get interesting just as George R.R. Martin stopped writing it, unfortunately. They had the good sense to change most of that in the show. GRRM needed a better editor. One or two chapters would have gotten the point across how desperate Brienne was becoming. It's important to note for those that like to be fair, I suppose. It's probably my flaw, but I do like to be fair. I'm sure you know the books very well. I'm sure you know them better than me. It's been a long time since I've read them, and I only read each one once. The books are fun. I enjoyed them, but they certainly have their fair share of bad that was difficult to read through.
It's only that the hate for the show's ending overshadows the problems with the incomplete books at this point. Maybe GRRM was the smart one. By not finishing them, people can still have their fan theories and use their imagination. The books are the fan darlings still, while everything from the show is either categorized into verbatim from the books ("good") or show-only moments ("bad"). People are actually stating now the series was, "Always bad from the beginning." Where were these people when the show was airing season to season? When the actors were winning awards for it? When the show in general was winning awards? When it was so popular that they could do a world tour of live concerts featuring the composer and a full orchestra doing the music? When it had a huge line of merchandise from shirts to board games and sold very well? Very odd that suddenly there's all these people who "always knew" it was bad...
Maybe these brilliant people who knew the show "always sucked" were sleeping deep in the ice and couldn't be bothered to talk with us lowly, less sophisticated people who watched it for 8 years...?

In the books, Brienne wanders aimlessly from place to place meeting forgettable characters, making the same statement repeatedly, and failing chapter after chapter.... Are they forgettable to you because they don't appear in the show?? In my mind, Hyle Hunt, Nimble Dick, the Brave Companions, Lady Stoneheart, Rorge, Biter, the Elder Brother, Ser Shadrich, are all incredibly interesting characters. Not to mention the locations she travels to are all fresh and fascinating. Duskendale, Maidenpoool, the Quiet Isle. Her conversation with the Elder Brother, is pivotal to the entire theme of the series, and her final confrontation with Rorge, Biter and subsequently Lady Stoneheart are tense and exciting. If you think the show version, where her and Podrick do nothing but wonder around and miraculously run into Sansa and Arya is better..... Then thats fine I guess. Thats your opinion. As to the rest of your post. I don't really know who or what your talking about. I've always maintained the show was mostly great for the first four seasons, before it started nosediving in quality. And there are plenty of notable Youtubers and Reddit users that began pointing out the shows serious flaws starting with season 5. Who are these people that in your mind are suddenly saying the show sucked from the start?? Because I haven't come across them.
