Inspektor GAI (1983, USSR, 76 minutes) - 7.5/10. A film about a traffic cop who gets on the wrong side of a businessman. To me, the most enjoyable aspect of this film is seeing the vehicles used, with lots of Lada cars to be seen. I also enjoyed seeing the uniforms used. Gee, cinema is such a great time capsule...
I hope people can read this post. I've had complaints that my posts are completely blank.

Just watched King Kong (1933) for the first time.
Good movie. Surprisingly action-packed for such an old movie, but it still holds up pretty well.
8.5/10

Vesna na Zarechnoy ulitse (1956, USSR, 90 minutes) - 8/10. Interesting drama. I enjoyed it.
The DVD I viewed has very dodgy subtitles though.

Clear Skies (1961, USSR, 104 minutes) - 8/10. Drama set in WW2 and the period afterwards. The colour film used is very nice, not quite Technicolor but still nicely saturated. The film consists of two sections: a romantic drama, and a drama about a war hero unfairly accused of being a traitor.
Later today I am planning to watch some episodes of the 1970s cartoon TV series "Nu, Pogodi!", sorta like a Soviet version of "Tom and Jerry" or "Road Runner". It's a shame there isn't a "last TV episode you saw" thread where I could talk about them (maybe someone would like to post one on TV General?)

Murder on the Orient Express (2017). Looks good and is well-acted although the story with the murder, motivations, etc. can be hard to follow. The first half is better than the second half.

Pirates of the 20th Century (1980, USSR, 80 minutes) - 7.5/10. This is something of an oddity: an action flick, clearly inspired by American action films, but coming from the former Soviet Union. Strangely enough I found it relaxing.

Get Rich Quick (1911, USA, 13 minutes) - 7.5/10. Cute drama about a couple who get rich though a "get rich quick scheme", but soon see the pain they have caused others. Nice little moral story of the kind popular in 1911.

A Night Out (1915, USA, 34 minutes) - 7.5/10. Comedy with Charlie Chaplin playing a drunk. Uneven, overly long given the slight story, but enjoyable. Some of the gags might be lost on modern viewers, who don't know what an inkwell is and don't know what a 1915 telephone looked like.
