So then you agree with Phil Robertson's statement in the OP? Because he does speak the truth in the OP. Uh....NO! I don't agree that our culture (as a whole) has accepted the "two lies" that he mentioned, so I don't think that he speaks the truth for the majority. Are there some that believe what he says?....Sure!

I've had him on ignore since about a week after I arrived on this board. I think you can see why. Yeah, there are too many losers on this message board, too many basement dwellers, too many socialists getting free internet. Just how many Finnish people are there on here then?

Why is it every time I see a quote of Phil Robertson's it shows him to be a fucking dumbshit who can't actually argue against the people he disagrees with?
Kinda like you, blade.

Although I agree with the premise people are not what they do, I think the accusation agaubst culture is silly since it is irrelevant and misguided since everyone makes up that culture which is always full of disagreement.
Why concern oneself with a culture that may condemn an opinion or sincere belief?
My beliefs aren't going to change regardless of what society thinks of it since it doesn't affect them and it's not my job ever to protect their feelings.
When I start killing people based on my beliefs, which would never happen, culture can kick my butt. Right now, I'm harmless!

This is especially true of the liberals and atheists on this board. The problem here is that he's trying to defend himself against his homophobic remarks which go well beyond "disagreeing with someone's lifestyle". No surprise thick as pigshit blade eats it up though, given he's an equally virulent homophobe.

Are there some that believe what he says?....Sure! johnblutarsky, by putting the two lies in quotes, does it mean that you regard them as truths instead of lies? Sorry. This might have fallen into a double-negative situation. Unfortunately, the wording in the original picture is clumsy. Robertson mentions two statements and says that they are lies. He also mentions that our culture accepts these statements (which is the main portion of the information that I have a problem with). It's not clear if he means that....culture has accepted his two statements (which he says are lies) to be true...or culture has accepted his two statements (which he says are lies) to be false. I don't agree that our culture (as a whole) feels that if you disagree with someone's lifestyle, you must fear or hate them. I also don't agree that our culture (as a whole) feels that in order to love someone means that you agree with everything they believe or do. Much like a variety of other quotes from Robertson, he says a lot of things, but when you boil down the essence of what he's saying, you're not left with a lot of substance.

Well, unnecessary name calling aside, per the picture that was posted - he said, "Our culture has accepted two huge lies."
He did NOT say, "The majority of our culture that's on the left has accepted two huge lies."
Anything beyond the text that is actually in the original picture is unsupported speculation, so you might want to reconsider before casting aspersions in a reply the next time.

This is especially true of the liberals and atheists on this board. Isn't your hero the same guy who claimed that "the blacks" were happier before the civil rights movement? Probably not a good idea to be getting advice as to what constitutes homophobia from a known ignorant racist. For the record, people who go out of their way to legalize discrimination of LGBT people do in fact FEAR homosexuality. It is fear that drives such actions. Fear of people in the bathroom, fear of their children "turning gay", fear of sociological acceptance of something one has a personal aversion to. Those are all irrational fears of homosexuality. Those without such fear don't spend so much time talking about how "evil" and threatening to society it is. So congratulations on being another homophobe who doesn't even know what the word actually means. Just because you think it's a bad word, or because you don't recognize your own fears does t mean you don't have them, or that the word doesn't apply to you.

Yeah, Robertson's a quote-geyser on this stuff: “I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field.... They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.” Hardly the first time I've heard an elderly southern feller explain how much happier blacks were under Jim Crow. He's also juxtaposed homosexuality with bestiality ... hence all the post-comment "Well, now, it's not hate..." type interview soundbites. Another gem: He's said STDs are punishment, which leaves one wondering what entire swathes of indigenous populations did to earn it. I know many good Christians who practice their faith alongside those who don't share it sans condemnation or any sort of attempted interference - that family isn't generally known to be one of them. People like to see the "Duck Dynasty" crew as emblematic in that regard but I've been in too many congregations where they're laughed at like any phony reality-TV set up billing itself as this or that.

These quotes from his wife excusing his adultery are fucking hilarious: So it seems Phil's sins which include adultery are apparently nothing to do with Phil, the devil and alcohol are to blame. Of course as this incredibly hypocritical women notes "Some sins have more consequences than other sins" I think what she meant to say was "My families sins have less consequences in our minds than other people's sins" Perhaps Phil should dust of his bible and look up what Jesus has to say about adulterers and what punishment should be given to them. Christian hypocrisy at it's finest.
