A thread for an Angel (sans Buffy) discussion.

I don't think AtS gets enough credit. I wish it didn't get cancelled so prematurely. It wasn't supposed to end where it did. I still get upset over the ending.

Me too!
I actually prefer it over Buffy (I love Buffy too), but yes it still kills me every time that it was cancelled when it didn't deserve to be. It never sat right that the show ended with the gang at Wolfram & Hart; it should have at least had one more season to "recover" from Wolfram & Hart and get back to the roots of the show to really round it out more. But I will say that I think the show did a great job of wrapping it all up within the very short time they had left (I believe it was about 5 episodes?).
Yes, while I acknowledge that there are some really great things in the series finale, I still don't like that it ends on a cliffhanger. I still think it should have had more closure. This is why I secretly want a revival of Angel, a miniseries or something, just to tie everything up properly. With other TV shows doing it (24, The X-Files, and Gilmore Girls) and with Bones ending (so David is available) now would be the time, but it will probably never happen. Oh well, I can dream.
Yeah, Angel does not get the credit that it deserves. It is always kind of in Buffy's shadow and not a lot of people know about it. But I am proud that the show was able to become it's own thing and not always have to be tied to Buffy...that it was a good show by itself.

My favourite TV show of all times. And like many other of my favorites, cancelled before its time. And yet despite that, the ending they put together I still absolutely loved.

Angel is my favorite show (and as everyone knows, my favorite character!) by far. I think I'll have to go back into the request thread to get the Admin to put Angel in the section title (Jossverse might just be easier). At the very minimum, Angel deserves co-status, though I have no doubt that anything else by Joss will inevitably be dropped in here. Some fandoms have different situations with sister shows/franchises and spinoffs where they're very much joined at the hip (Doctor Who and Star Trek are also examples of franchises of many properties). Large franchises or wider-reaching fandoms in contrast to singular shows should have a uniform method of being represented.

I think this whole section is better off under "Whedonverse" or "Works of Joss Whedon"

Angel had some of the GREATEST moments in the Buffyverse.
Like when Angel has won the right to go "down" to meet the senior partners and he is left in the world knowing that every human is evil.
"If they weren't they'd all be angels."

Darla's arc on Angel is my favorite arc in the whole 'verse...but it also had the worst arc too, the Jasmine/Connor/Cordy thing. Whew. I also loved loved LOVED I Will Remember You. Unimaginably sad. I think I just might have laughed more on Angel than on BtVS. Small part of the one ep with those female aliens who had the upper part of their spines taken out to "control them" (name escapes me) when Wesley was helping one into the back of the truck and iirc correctly he actually puts her hand on his crotch and says something highly inappropriate...I laughed til I cried at that. I wish I could remember what he said...been too long. Overdue for a rewatch.

Is this the line of dialogue you were thinking of?: Wesley: [breathing a bit fast] “My, what a grip. Very - healthy. Surprisingly firm myself under the jacket. Have a feel.”

Thank you so much!! Laughing again, so unexpected from prim and proper Wesley!!! Loved his character arc and development on AtS.

I felt the show was great on it's own terms. Season 4 with Jasmine needed some work as it mostly talking, but it still had a few I enjoyed.

People give Season 4 a lot of flack, but I found it enjoyable for the most part. Did not like Conner, but he was tolerable. I liked the whole Jasmine storyline.

I thought Angel had the best ending of any series ever. It was full of hope and determination.

I still wish season six had happen, but the finale was done right. I felt they wrapped it up nicely.

Narratively, it's one of the series' strongest seasons. And Jasmine was an interesting take on the Big Bad: One who is bringing peace rather than destruction.
