So, I'm scrolling through the Netflixs yesterday unsure of what to watch. My 9 year old kid suggests this movie, which I thought unusual but appreciate he isn't deterred by its age nor it being in black & white. On another note, the version show on Netflix was in a 1.33:1 aspect ratio. Reminded me of late night movies shown on CBC back in the 1990s. Back to the movie. I last saw this about 12 years ago so definitely due for a rewatch. Immediately hit with Bernard Hermann's score. I might be nuts but I was also reminded of John Williams' music, in particular E.T. when Michael is trying to escape the feds on his bike. As my kid knew nothing about this movie, it was nice to avoid any spoilers. The explanation for Norman's behavior is really the only misstep as it spells everything out in big colorful crayons. Of the performances, Anthony Perkins is absolutely excellent. Some of Hitchcock's stylistic choices are great, too.

I have a funny story associated with Psycho. One night I was watching it on TCM (Turner Classic Movies) when my kitty Gordie, who has since crossed The Rainbow Bridge, poked me with his paw and pointed it at the TV as if to say, "SEE?! NOTHING GOOD COMES OF FREE RANGE WATER!", during the iconic shower scene.

So did your 9 year old sh*t himself or what? I was a little younger when I saw the remake (same movie, basically) and the skull superimposed over Norman's face especially freaked me out. Twists didn't seem to matter to me though since I don't remember any particular shock to the ones here or in Scream and The Sixth Sense.

A very good movie. The main theme from Herrmann is just so good.

Enjoyed it as a child. Turned out just fine. That's debatable. You might not be the best example of turning out just fine.

The less said about the remake, the better. The Remake is a DISGRACE!!! Odd that Gus Van Sant used his clout from Good Will Hunting to show the world Norman Bates jerking off and derailing his career in the process. Not the wisest decision in retrospect.

Your nine year old boy is a good man. Psycho is a stone cold classic for good reason.
It's still amazing that Hitchcock "slumming it up" turned in his best film. Yeah, that's right, I said it! Psycho is Hitchcock's best. Come at me!
