I'll probably see it but the X-Men series is awfully inconsistent. Loved First Class and Days of Future Past (the two best in the series, IMHO), The Wolverine was forgettable, X-Men: Apocalypse was kinda lame, Logan was pretty good. Really not sure whether we'll have another winner or one to join the ranks of X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Dark Phoenix is my most anticipated superhero movie of 2019.

I haven't seen an X-Men film since The Last Stand.

Hell no. Even as a rental, I might just skip it entirely.

My interest in X-Men basically ended after X2. I don't know how so many people are still so invested in these after like a hundred fucking movies.

Not really. I want the movie to be good, but I don't think Sophie Turner has the dramatic heft to carry a film.

My hopes are not high for this one.
I'll see it in theatres if there's nothing else showing that weekend and I'm feeling particularly in need of fresh movie theatre popcorn. But I doubt this one will be one of the better X-Men outings.
Why do I say that? This is the one that's supposed to be The Dark Phoenix Saga done right, or at least better than X-Men 3, right? But nothing I'm seeing from the previews shows me that. It looks like more of the same, and unfortunately the same has gotten lame.
I didn't mean for that rhyme, I swear.

They lost me with The Last Stand and then XO Origins Wolverine. That killed it for me. The franchise had so much promise too. So many characters and so much potential completely wasted over the years.
Strictly speaking as films about mutants with superpowers, I actually enjoyed First Class, DOFP and Logan. However, if I start thinking of them as X-Men films, I can't help but feel disappointment.
Dark Phoenix just looks like more of the same.

Very odd that after The Last Stand failed, they'd try to redo the Dark Phoenix Saga...with the same writer and even have him direct.
That said, I'll give it a chance. The only X-Men movie I've outright disliked is Origins, and I like Sophie Turner.

Only for Fassbender and McAvoy.
The Dark Phoenix storyline feels out of nowhere this time around. We barely even know much about this version of Jean Grey.

You could ask the same thing about comic books in general. Why after thousands of X-men comics are people still reading them? Well yeah. Because people enjoy them maybe? Now it depends entirely on if you were a fan of the first 2 X-Men movies. After the disasters that were The Last Stand and Wolverine, the rebooted the franchise with the fun First Class and then that was followed by Days of Future Past, which is considered by many to be the best or second best film in the franchise. Then we were given the gritty and smart Logan. X2, Days of Future Past and Logan are considered 3 of the best films in the entire comic book movie genre. It isn't difficult to figure out why people are still interested. Then you have all of the fans of the comic books and the fans of the 1990s cartoon.

Not unless Jessica Chastain or Sophie Turner get naked.
