I took the Belief-O-Matic test for the first time in over a decade. The questions seem to have been substantially re-written to update them in terms of what somebody felt were relevant issues now. For instance I don't think questions appeared about homosexuality, abortion, or environmental issues years ago. The results for me were quite different than the last time I took the test. I rated 100% "Orthodox Quaker" this time, with descending percentages for other views. The last time I rated 100% LDS and only 65% now. Orthodox Quakerism Conservative Christian Protestant Seventh-day Adventists Roman Catholicism Hinduism Eastern Orthodox Christianity Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Liberal Quakerism Jehovah's Witnesses Sikhism Orthodox Judaism Liberal Christian Protestantism Jainism Unitarian Universalism Neo-Paganism Islam Mahayana Buddhism New Age Bahá'í Faith Reformed Judaism Secular Humanism Scientology Church of Christ, Scientist Taoism New Thought Theravada Buddhist Atheism Belief-O-Matic

About 15 years ago I was posting on a Mormon message board. Although I had parted company with the Mormons, I was the only one to get 100% LDS from this test. The active Mormons got other faiths at higher percentages than their own and were surprised. As I remember it, the questions about the nature of God were more black and white back then, and a couple of answers were obviously designed to separate Mormons from others.
My initial thought was that my different results are due mostly to the modification of the questions, but I most likely have become more "pacifist" in the past few years. I have consciously wondered at times over the past few years if I really do relate more closely to The Society of Friends than most all other Christian sects. I was most surprised to see "Conservative Christian Protestant" in second place for me because my own perception is that I do not relate to them much at all.

What religion/philosophy do you most strongly identify with? Given that I was raised in a protestant sect of Christianity (Southern Baptist), I am most familiar with that religion. But I don't identify with it. I find it interesting that, on this board, the fine details, which separate groups of Christians, are what is debated more than anything else, and the posters are generally American. The majority of atheists appear to be from Europe and Australia. It's too bad there aren't more religious groups represented here, but I have a feeling that those other religions tend not to be the type that would discuss these things on an open discussion forum. It has been interesting to hear AJ discuss eastern religions, since he grew up in the middle of Hindu culture.

None. (I’d have clicked 'Atheism' but it isn’t a religion.)

Of course, the reason why Yahoo.com closed their message boards, was because after they officially changed their curriculum for them, a lot of posters became turned off by them.

I got Secular Humanism again on the belief-o-matic. But I don't know if I like the multiple choice system. I prefer quizzes where you have to say whether you agree, disagree or are neutral about a statement.
Like the Wahl-O-Mat, or political compass.

Christian of a strange and inexplicable sort (it seems most Christians, certainly ones on this board, do not think I am a Christian, but my religious thinking is shaped mostly by Christian streams).

It was a board set up by an individual Mormon. He was a teacher in Utah. He had advertised his site on various IMDb boards by posting that it was an alternative to the battles that were taking place between observant Mormons and anti-Mormons. Very few registered people would post. Mostly the site was perused by visitors. There were three very active Mormons, a Catholic lady, and myself making most of the posts. The owner of the site promised no censorship and kept that promise but he was straining with what I posted a couple of times. Then he took a job in Arkansas and moved. The site went dark for s few days the reappeared using a new server. He promised it would last forever. Forever turned out to be three months. On the IMDb boards for "Latter Days" and "September Dawn" there was a lot of discussion about the religion beyond what was in the movies.

Roman Catholicit's THE church Jesus Christ started and the one He guides. or let me put it this way... the Catholic church was started by Jesus Christ, who's God (i.e. The Holy Trinity (Father/Son(Jesus Christ)/Holy Spirit)), where as all other Christian denominations are started by man. the Catholic church contains the whole truth, where as others only contain some of it along with error. so it's unwise to leave the Catholic church to put it mildly as you lower your chances of reaching Heaven. "And I also say unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it." - Matthew 16:18 so Peter is basically the first pope and it went down through the generations til today. here is a list of Popes from Peter to date... www.newadvent.org/cathen/12272b.htmor another thing I like to post from time to time...

Back 2005, a Catholic friend from the Yahoo boards (still friends with this person today on FB), recommended me this particular Catholic website with a message board. Within a matter of days, I was wondering why the heck he referred me there. The fanatics that posted on that site used to attack Pope John Paul II (who had just died earlier that year, I might add), many of them were Holocaust deniers, and a whole lot of other BS on that site. I continued to post on that site for a few months, & then I emailed by friend to tell him how I felt about posting there. About a week after I emailed him, he got back to me with a link to a topic in that group, that was an email exchange between him & the site's administrator. In it, he basically told the administrator how negative the site had become, & about how he had referred the site to an online friend (me) only to get feedback about how bad the site was, & that he was never going to be referring the site to anyone again, because of how bad it was on there. For a while there, a few of the "good Catholics" broke away from that site & started up a new Catholic site, but, there were way too few posters to keep it going, so it had to be shut down after only a few months.

Who would wish to bash Pope John Paul II? I am of course not Catholic but I really admired him. Actually I seem to be one who respects and admires Pope Francis much more than most on this board. I always pay attention when he has given an address and usually agree with him completely.
There are boards that are very, very completely in line with the thinking of the leadership of the Mormon church, and also some that are very critical ex-Mormon sites. I have posted on some on both sides of the fence. People on them can get fanatical. Ojectivity often is lost.

You'd be amazed. There have been BOTH extremely left wing & right wing Catholics that bashed John Paul II. Admittedly, I never encountered the right wing ones, until I began posting on Catholic message forums, but, yeah, there all around.

Right wing Catholics are a small minority, mostly in the US, and a disgrace to our faith. We are a socialist religion. US 'catholicism' doesn't represent the Catholic faithful... It's more of an evangelical fundo Jewish cult.

The afore-mentioned Catholic website which I was telling geode about, earlier on this topic thread, had several that bashed the late Holy Father, though.
